Job description

Hi, we’re Underdog!

We’re the fastest-growing sports gaming company ever.

We build innovative games and products for American sports fans.

Founded in 2020, our team built four of today’s most widely played fantasy games and recently launched our Underdog Sportsbook. We are the only sportsbook to ever launch on our own home grown technology, which allows us to build different and innovative experiences. We believe there’s so much more to be built for sports fans, and we’ll continue to win by building the best products and experiences for our customers.

The opportunity in front of us to become the biggest company in our space is massive; after all, we’re currently sitting in the fastest-growing consumer industry in the U.S. In just over two years, we reached a nearly $500 million valuation through some of the best investors in the game, including Mark Cuban, Kevin Durant, BlackRock, and SV Angel. We are many times larger now and our growth is not slowing down.

At Underdog, we believe that sports are for everyone and are building a tomorrow for every fan. Want to help create that future? Join us.

About the role and why it’s unique:

We’re looking for a Director of Analytics to lead our Commercial Analytics team. In this role, you will directly manage a team of analysts, collaborating with stakeholders to design data-driven solutions that support Finance, Accounting, Fraud, Payments, Legal, Compliance, and Responsible Gaming. You’ll address challenges such as maintaining a single-source-of-truth for business and financial data, empowering the finance and accounting teams with self-serve analytics tools, enhancing fraud detection, streamlining payments, ensuring regulatory compliance, and promoting responsible gaming practices. This role is perfect for a hands-on leader who excels at enabling data-driven operations and empowering teams with impactful data solutions.

  • Lead and Develop the Team:
    • Manage and grow a team of analysts by setting clear goals, providing regular feedback, and fostering an environment of professional growth and collaboration.
    • Partner with your team to design and execute development plans tailored to their skills and career aspirations.
    • Encourage a culture of ownership and accountability by enabling analysts to take the lead on projects aligned with business needs.
  • Deliver Actionable Insights:
    • Partner with leaders across Finance, Accounting, Fraud, Payments, Legal, Compliance, and Responsible Gaming to identify operational challenges and deliver actionable solutions.
    • Conduct analyses to uncover trends, mitigate risks, and improve efficiency across critical commercial areas.
  • Build Scalable Analytics Frameworks:
    • Define and track KPIs relevant to commercial functions, ensuring alignment with overall company goals.
    • Establish scalable reporting solutions that provide real-time data visibility and empower teams to make informed decisions.
    • Streamline processes for ad-hoc requests, balancing flexibility with operational efficiency.
  • Enable Self-Serve Analytics:
    • Build and maintain curated data models that empower Finance, Accounting, Fraud, and Payments teams to independently uncover insights and perform scenario analyses.
    • Develop comprehensive documentation, training sessions, and support resources to enable stakeholders to confidently explore and utilize self-serve analytics tools.
Who you are:
  • Experienced Leader: You have 10+ years of experience in analytics or a related field, with at least 4 years managing teams. You thrive on coaching, mentoring, and building high-performing teams.
  • Technically Proficient: You have strong SQL skills and are experienced with tools such as dbt, Looker, Sigma, or Tableau. Familiarity with scripting languages like Python or R is a plus.
  • Detail-Oriented and Business-Focused: You excel at translating business problems into analytical solutions and building tools that drive meaningful outcomes.
  • Collaborative Problem Solver: You enjoy working cross-functionally and have a track record of developing practical solutions that meet stakeholder needs.
  • Impact-Driven: You focus on delivering results that directly influence business performance, especially in commercial and operational contexts.
Even better if you have:
  • A background in corporate finance or accounting, with expertise in financial workflows and scenario planning.
  • Proven experience thriving in fast-paced, high-growth environments within consumer tech, real money gaming, or financial services.
  • Specialized knowledge in fraud detection, compliance, or payment systems.
  • Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining data models or frameworks optimized for commercial use cases.
  • Strong ability to juggle competing priorities and lead multiple high-impact projects effectively.

Our target starting base salary range for this position is between $208,000 and $235,000, plus target equity. The starting base salary will depend on a number of factors including the candidate’s skills and experience, among other things.
