IGS is currently pipelining for a remote Payroll Specialist to support our corporate accounting team.
This position is pending contract award, applicants will be reviewed post-award.
The Payroll Specialist will be responsible for managing payroll processes, ensuring accurate and timely payments to employees, and handling related financial transactions. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of payroll systems, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
Assignment of Work and Travel:
This is a remote access assignment. Candidates will work remotely daily and will remotely access IGS systems and therein use approved IGS provided communications systems. Travel is not required; however, the candidate may be required to attend onsite meetings as requested.
Responsibilities and Duties (Included but not limited to):
1) Payroll Processing:
- Administer and process payroll for all employees, ensuring timely and accurate payment.
- Maintain employee payroll records, including hours worked, deductions, and benefits.
- Verify and validate timekeeping data to ensure accuracy.
- Handle payroll adjustments, including corrections and retroactive payments.
2) Journal Entries:
- Prepare and record payroll-related journal entries in the general ledger.
- Ensure all payroll transactions are accurately captured and documented.
- Reconcile payroll expenses and liabilities to ensure consistency with the general ledger.
- Prepare and review payroll-related reports, including labor costs and benefits allocations.
- Prepare additional journal entries as needed.
3) Account Reconciliation:
- Reconcile payroll accounts, including bank accounts and related general ledger accounts.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies in payroll and related financial accounts.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and government regulations regarding payroll and financial reporting.
4) System Maintenance:
- Maintain and update payroll software and systems.
- Ensure data integrity and security in payroll systems.
- Implement and manage system upgrades and improvements as necessary.
5) Additional Duties:
- Collaborate with HR and Finance teams to streamline payroll processes.
- Participate in payroll-related projects and initiatives as needed.
- Stay informed about changes in labor laws and regulations affecting payroll practices.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
- 5-7 years of proven experience as a Payroll Specialist or similar role.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in multi-state payroll processing is required.
- Associate’s degree in accounting or an equivalent combination of education, training, and related experience.
- Proficiency in payroll software like Paylocity, ADP, and MS Office Suite (Excel, Word).
- Strong understanding of payroll regulations, state and federal tax laws, and accounting principles.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications and Core Competencies:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
- Prior, successful experience working in a remote environment.

Compensation: There are a host of factors that can influence final salary, including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications.
