Payroll Tax and Accounting Analyst

The Payroll Tax and Accounting Analyst is a key role within the University’s Payroll Accounting and Tax Office, part of the Office of Business and Finance, reporting to the Associate Director of Payroll Tax and Accounting. This position is responsible for managing university-wide tax compliance and essential payroll accounting duties. The Analyst handles employee payroll withholding taxes, collaborates with ADP to deposit payments and complete filings, assists with tax forms and payments for US source income (1042), and identifies potential tax exposures. They play a crucial role in year-end processes, including preparing and delivering W-2/W-2c and 1042 forms, reconciling employee tax balances, and performing periodic tax audits. Additionally, the Analyst manages key accounting processes, including the Wisely pay card program and payroll accounting reconciliation, ensuring timely delivery and accuracy. This role involves close collaboration with Payroll Operations, University Bursar, and other departments to ensure precise processing of payroll transactions and corrections by means of thorough auditing and reconciliation of complex payroll and tax accounts. The Analyst provides research, analysis, project implementation, audit readiness, process improvement, and documentation to the Payroll Accounting and Tax Team.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent combination of education and experience. (2) years of experience in working in payroll. Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects and tasks. Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with employees, peers, internal and external customers.
Desired Qualifications:
Strongly prefer candidates that have 5-6 years’ experience in payroll, tax compliance, or related accounting functions. Experience with payroll software, Workday, and tax reporting systems preferred.
