Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Billing Specialist to join our healthcare team, specifically focusing on occupational health clients. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing the billing processes related to occupational health services, ensuring accurate claims submission, and maintaining patient records in compliance with healthcare regulations. This role requires a strong understanding of medical billing procedures, insurance guidelines and excellent communication skills.
Roles and Responsibilities
Prepare and submit accurate billing statements to insurance companies and corporate/other employers, focusing on occupational health services.
Verify insurance eligibility and benefits for patients.
Review and resolve billing discrepancies and denials.
Process payments, maintain accurate financial records, and follow up with clients/employers regarding payment status.
Collaborate with healthcare providers to obtain necessary documentation for billing.
Communicate effectively with patients regarding billing inquiries and payment options.
Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and insurance guidelines.
Assisted in month-end close processes and generated billing reports.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding updates and billing regulations.
Support other administrative tasks within the billing department as needed.
Job Requirements
Education and Experience:
A high school diploma or equivalent, as well as an associate degree in healthcare administration, accounting, or a related field, is preferred.
Proven experience in medical billing, coding, or a related role in the healthcare industry, particularly with occupational health billing.
Proficient in medical billing software and electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Knowledge of medical terminology, coding (ICD-10, CPT), and billing regulations.
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Certification in medical billing and coding (e.g., CPC, CCS, CCA) is a plus.
Familiarity with various insurance plans and reimbursement processes.
Experience with claims management and appeals processes.
