Job Description

Your future team:

The Principal Substantiation Engineer will be embedded into our client’s team responsible for delivering updates to existing design substantiation dating back many years, as well as drawing together substantiation for the new infrastructure within a nuclear licensed site.

 

Your missions:
In this role, you’ll leverage your expertise to assist our client’s Design and Project Managers in delivering critical project scopes. You will:

🎯 Develop and update Design Substantiation Reports (DSR) by applying your technical knowledge and experience.

🎯 Analyse existing concrete structures to confirm their compliance with safety functional requirements.

🎯 Provide Subject Matter Expert advice on civil/structural engineering.

🎯 Collaborate with multidisciplinary design teams and liaise with the nuclear safety team to ensure robust solutions.

🎯 Uphold rigorous Quality Management standards in alignment with the Business Management System and Technical Manual.

🎯 Maintain accurate documentation and ensure strong configuration and quality controls throughout the process.

Qualifications

Qualifications/Skills to be successful:

💡 A degree (or equivalent) in civil or structural engineering.

💡 Chartered Engineer status (or significant relevant experience with eligibility for CEng registration).

💡 A proven track record in multidisciplinary engineering, with a core focus on safety and structural integrity.

💡 Expertise in modern analysis techniques for concrete nuclear structures, such as finite element analysis.

💡 Strong knowledge of UK laws and regulations governing Nuclear Licenced Sites and familiarity with international codes and standards for nuclear structure design.

💡 A deep understanding of nuclear safety case development and the designer’s role within it.

💡 Solid technical authorship skills, particularly in design substantiation and report development.

 

Additional Information

Due to the nature of work to be undertaken applicants will be required to meet certain residency criteria in order to attain a minimum level of UK security clearance if not already security cleared to a minimum SC level. 

Umbrella Contract or permanent role

Work from home or Assystem local office with occasional visits to Client site in Plymouth.
