Job description

Role: War Pension & Compensation Advisor

Location: Homebased – North UK

Contract Type: 9 months fixed term

Hours: 35 hours per week

Salary: £28,458pa pro rata

Plus additional £4,000pa pro rata upon successfully completing training and competency assessment (usually within 6 months)

We are looking for a War Pension & Compensation Advisor to join our War Pension & Armed Forces Compensation Service providing tribunal representation, advice, guidance and case management to beneficiaries, ensuring Royal British Legion’s commitment to support the Armed Forces Community and the needs of beneficiary are at the centre of all that we do.


As a War Pension & Compensation Adviser, you will provide crucial support to beneficiaries by guiding them through their appeal process and representing them before the War Pensions and Armed Forces Compensation First Tier Tribunal. Your responsibilities include:


  • Preparing Cases for Tribunal: Thoroughly reviewing case files to ensure all necessary information is included, understanding beneficiaries' reasons for appeal, and advocating for the importance of RBL's support in their cases.
  • Advising Beneficiaries: Conducting advice sessions prior to hearings to summarise findings, outline what to expect at the tribunal, and explain the next steps in the appeal process.
  • Presenting Cases: Drafting clear, persuasive arguments on behalf of beneficiaries and presenting a cohesive case before the Tribunal.
  • Managing Caseloads: Overseeing a portfolio of beneficiaries, progressing cases to listing status, and identifying any additional needs, with referrals to other RBL teams as needed.


The role is primarily homebased with will have regular travel around the North UK for internal meetings and visiting beneficiaries, therefore you will need to live in a location that allows reasonable travel around this area. (Travel expenses covered)


There will also be occasional travel nationally to attend training / meetings.


Driving licence is essential requirement for this role.
