Job description

Primary Details
Time Type: Full time

Worker Type: Employee

The purpose of this role is to deliver high-quality legal advice to a specific business unit/division, ensuring effective risk management and compliance across the organisation. This position involves representing the company by offering comprehensive legal guidance, strategic solutions, and proactive management of legal matters with minimal supervision. The focus is on identifying and resolving the company’s concerns, issues, risks, and liabilities through in-depth analysis and the development of strategic legal practices.
Additionally, this role includes support for corporate secretarial (Co-Sec) duties. Responsibilities will encompass assisting in the preparation and maintenance of statutory books and records, ensuring the timely submission of required documents to regulatory authorities, and aiding in the organisation and administration of board meetings. The successful candidate will offer advice on corporate governance issues, ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, and assist in the management of shareholder relations.
This expanded role requires a legal professional who can balance multiple priorities and communicate effectively with stakeholders both within and outside the organisation while maintaining a high standard of professional ethics and confidentiality.

Your new role:

  • Proactively anticipate and identify legal issues, providing counsel to management to develop effective strategies and solutions tailored to different jurisdictions across Asia (such as Malaysia, Singapore, and Hong Kong).
  • Establish and maintain robust relationships with internal and external parties, leveraging in-depth legal knowledge to effectively resolve inquiries and legal matters.
  • Conduct thorough research and draft legal documents while addressing regulatory issues across complex and high-risk scenarios in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Advise on diverse legal matters, assess associated risks, and recommend bespoke solutions for specific business segments operating across different legal frameworks.
  • Actively contribute to decision-making processes by collaborating with internal partners and participating in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Foster a culture of legal risk awareness and effective risk management within the business.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislation, internal policies, and procedures applicable in various jurisdictions.
  • Continuously identify and evaluate legal risks by monitoring relevant developments and proposing strategic organisational responses.
  • Prioritise and delegate workload effectively to enhance departmental efficiency.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining robust legal infrastructure and corporate secretarial processes across different regions.

About you:

  • Relevant post-qualification experience in a similar role, with specific exposure to international and multi-jurisdictional legal environments.

Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications Include:
  • Tertiary Degree in Law or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Certifications/licensing as a lawyer qualified to practice in relevant jurisdictions.
  • Experience in corporate governance and compliance, particularly in Malaysia, Hong Kong, and Singapore.
