Job Details

Under the direction of the VP of Product Strategy, the Product Owner is responsible for the products defined in their product portfolio. The Product Owner will establish and maintain the Product roadmap(s) in partnership with Business stakeholders to develop innovative products, enhance existing offerings, execute through commercial partnerships, and, when necessary, replace underperforming products to meet or exceed strategic imperatives.

The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of contemporary platform businesses, including the strategies and technologies that drive their success. This role requires a proactive approach to maintaining a broad and up-to-date perspective on relevant market dynamics, including competitor landscapes, overarching technology trends, and potential sources of disruption.

Additionally, the Product Owner will thrive in a lean, matrixed organization where resources are limited. They will drive performance by:

  • Maximizing resource efficiency through prioritization and focused execution, ensuring that every initiative delivers maximum impact with minimal investment.

  • Fostering cross-functional collaboration to align diverse teams around a common vision, enabling efficient use of shared resources and expertise.

  • Implementing agile methodologies that allow for quick pivots in strategy and product development, ensuring responsiveness to market demands and customer feedback.

  • Encouraging a culture of innovation by leveraging creative problem-solving and leveraging existing assets to drive product enhancements and new offerings.

  • This approach will empower the Product Owner to deliver exceptional results and drive sustained growth, even in resource-constrained environments.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Strategy/Planning 

  • Maintain an understanding of overall business strategy and how the Product(s) fit into this strategy 

  • Understands and can applying industry-wide perspective on major trends, including customer, regulatory, technology, and distribution channel changes; identifies implications for product success. 

  • Partner with business leaders, and stakeholders in a matrixed organization to plan and own a roadmap that supports business strategy 

  • Own and execute long-range operating income plans by driving strategic product initiatives that align with organizational goals and enhance revenue growth. 

  • Manage Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) process to support building and maintaining Product(s) 

  • Generates substantial market share growth and brand recognition for owned product(s). 

  • Benchmark and manage the Business value metrics established for the product including run and enhancement costs, ROI, OKR’s, KPI’s, etc.; work with Commercialization leadership to address variances in committed value 

  • Provides detailed reports and presentations as needed to communicate our assessment results, recommendations and implementation plansCapable of building and delivering C-suite presentations and positioning with MWI and Cencora executive teams. 

  • Interface with customers regarding strategy, Product(s), value propositions, and support. 

  • Collaborate and execute with internal and 3rd party architects, designers, developers, and others to translate business strategy into detailed requirements and a development plan 

  • Work with Communications and Marketing teams to develop a customer communications strategy that promotes engagement and understanding of the Product(s) 

  • Oversee the development, negotiation, and execution of service-level agreements (SLAs) and Operational Level Agreements (OLAs) in support of the Product(s) 

  • Supports Commercial Solutions  (ensuring right tools, technology, and strategy to achieve revenue goals.) 

  • Considers risk and risk management in designing, developing and supporting Product(s) 

  • Comply with all appropriate policies, procedures, safety rules and regulations 

  • Perform related duties as assigned 

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Normally requires broad training in fields such as business administration, communications, sales, marketing or similar vocations obtained through completion of Bachelor’s degree program; Master's Degree (MBA or MHA) preferred;

  • requires a minimum of eight (8) years related and progressively responsible experience in the animal healthcare and/or distribution business.

  • Project Management certification or successful completion of a recognized project management curriculum is required.

MINIMUM SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Intimate knowledge of animal healthcare industry including direct experience with pharmaceutical distribution and related customer base.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication

  • Advanced skills in leading client discussions with proven success in facilitating consensus on priorities and the path forward

  • Demonstrated ability to clearly present strategy and solution concepts to executives, sales teams and customers

  • Demonstrated high-level leadership

  • Skilled in conflict management

  • Well versed in finance and accounting core concepts and principles.

  • Able to prepare a complex master schedule inclusive of dependencies and resourcing

  • Able to effectively use communication tools (e.g. Office365) to keep stakeholders engaged and up to speed
