Job Description Summary

Works directly with Claims leaders, Commercial Lines and E&S/S (CLESS) senior leaders, P&C senior leadership up to and including OCEO direct reports to provide the most critical and complex data solutions to deliver on Claims strategy. Ultimately responsible for creating, packaging, and communicating to senior leadership high quality, easily interpreted data, analytics, and insights in support of strategic CLESS business needs.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partners with CLESS and P&C senior business leaders to understand business, data needs, and strategies. Provides guidance and oversight on data solution design ideas and deliver data and/or reporting work that supports business strategies. Influences to provide innovative and creative data solutions to business problems. This includes accountability for project execution, change management and communication, culture development and transformation.  

  • Delivers timely, accurate executive reporting and insights to business leaders in Claims, Finance, Reserving, Pricing, Underwriting, etc. to assist in assessing business performance, inform strategy and understand trends and forecasts. Oversees the preparation of reports and use of information systems, software and related sources of information. Manages the training of other users on report preparation and database access.  

  • Manages CLESS Claims business partner expectations by guiding the team to complete data and/or reporting, analytics, and insights work proactively, consistently, and in a timely manner. Partners with CLESS senior business partners to establish and adhere to SLA framework and commitments. Influences Claims leaders on full portfolio of work and establishes priority within that portfolio, as a trusted advisor.  

  • Drives strategic and operational priorities of the Claims Insights and Analytics organization to enable data-informed decisions and improve severity management.  

  • Refines E&S/S, CL and NWAG data architecture to align with business strategy and support advanced analytics models and decision support tools for Claims. Influence claim leaders to support standard work and the utilization of structured data fields to enhance data quality and analysis capabilities for the organization.  

  • Responsible for consistency and continuity in team performance, monitoring overall partner satisfaction, project progress, and process improvements to enhance service delivery. Leads the team to strategically support CLESS claims business partners through monitoring external sources, creating custom reports, compiling and summarizing information, producing supporting documentation and exhibits, and verification of information received from external sources. 

  • Helps to lead and deliver on the Data as an Asset Initiative to influence and strategically impact  core data attributes for operational and portfolio performance.  

  • Oversees associate management including performance management, salary planning and administration, budget planning and delivery, training and development, workflow and organization planning, day-to-day management, hiring and placement, and disciplinary actions for direct and possibly indirect reports.  

  • Oversees delivery of deep dive analytics through hypothesis testing and statistical techniques to provide critical business insights to CLESS Claims leaders.  

  • Oversees CLESS Claims AI investments to ensure alignment with the Claims modernization roadmap and delivery of stated objectives.  

  • Leverages global sourcing to maximize data engineering and data visualization delivery to address capability and capacity gaps and build a future ready data organization.  

May perform other responsibilities as assigned. 

Reporting RelationshipsReports to VP, Data and Digital Solutions. 3-5 direct reports 30-50 indirect reports.  

 

Typical Skills and Experiences  

 

Education: Undergraduate studies in computer science, management information, business, mathematics, finance, accounting, risk management and insurance, or related field. Graduate studies are preferred. Significant insurance related studies gained by technical insurance designation is preferred.  

 

Experience: A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in planning, designing and implementing P&C specific financial and operational measurement initiatives. Experience with influencing senior leaders through problem solving. Extensive experience leading large, multi-layered teams.  

 

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Key skills include strategic agility, dealing with ambiguity, critical thinking, P&C business acumen, organizational agility, strong problem-solving abilities, and executive presence. Selected candidate must have excellent communication and/or collaboration skills and the ability to clearly articulate a vision for the future across a broad spectrum of audiences. Must have in-depth experience with P&C Claims. Familiarity of the claims process and core KPIs across auto, casualty, property and workers’ compensation claims gained through direct handling, leadership and/or by supporting Claims in a data and analytics capacity is required. Expert knowledge of standards, best practices, methodologies, and frameworks associated with the insurance and/or financial services industry, and business process management. Must have expert knowledge of a wide variety of tools, concepts, and techniques of financial and operational measurement, analysis, and design. Understanding of new technologies and developments in the claims/technology/analytics industry and their application to the P&C environment. Extensive knowledge of project management concepts and techniques are required. Expert knowledge of facilitation, performance management, organizational design, and organization change management. Must have expertise and the ability to coach and mentor others in building business partnerships, influence, providing timely and relevant information for decision making, leading change, business transformation planning, and the ability to translate findings into actionable communications.

Nationwide pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement within the actual starting salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. If a Sales job, Sales Incentives, based on performance goals are possible in addition to this range.

The national salary range for AVP, P&C Business Insights : $140,000.00-$277,000.00

The expected starting salary range for AVP, P&C Business Insights : $147,000.00 - $247,000.00
