The Job:  

As Payment Operations Strategist, you will be a key strategic and executional member of the team that will drive innovation and optimize payment operations for our dynamic startup team within a larger organization. This role is pivotal in shaping how we grow and scale our FinServ offerings, focusing on delivering exceptional value to our customers. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of payment ecosystems in a B2C environment and will be adept at fostering collaboration across cross-functional teams.

As a Payment Operations Strategist, you will develop and implement strategies that enhance the efficiency, reliability, and scalability of our payment processes. You will analyze current systems, identify improvement opportunities, and design solutions to reduce costs, improve operational workflows, and elevate the customer experience. This role requires a forward-thinking individual who is both team-oriented and deeply accountable, ensuring goals are met with integrity and precision.

You will also monitor industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes to maintain compliance and stay ahead of the curve, driving continuous improvement and innovation in payment operations. What You Will Do:  

  • Chargeback and Dispute Management: Own the crafting and submission of tailored chargeback and retrieval responses to card issuers on behalf of BT clients. Investigate and analyze dispute cases from internal and third-party systems, ensuring accurate and proper responses. Manage chargebacks, retrieval requests, and dispute databases with daily updates. Correspond with customers, banks, acquirers, and payment processors to resolve disputes effectively.
  • Customer Support and Case Resolution: Resolve client inquiries and casework within established SLA standards. Answer and prioritize customer contact queues to deliver the best customer experience within SLAs. Partner with customer support and payment providers to achieve timely resolutions to customer problems. The Team's day-to-day work includes handling cases from multiple payment providers, of different payment methods and via internal or external channels, as well as cooperation with cross-functional teams and departments.
  • Process Improvement and Documentation: Own the Payment Operations procedure manual updates. Design and document effective operational processes with a focus on standardization, automation, and scalability. Develop and execute the Payment Operations process improvement roadmap.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with our payment providers and cross-functional partners, including our Engineering & Product teams to resolve any issues impacting our payments products. Quantify customer feedback from a Payment Operations perspective to inform product and workflow enhancements. Work well individually and in teams by sharing information and supporting colleagues.
  • Project Support and Ad Hoc Initiatives: Support and contribute to ad-hoc projects and initiatives for the Payment Operations team.

 

Who You Are and What You Need:  

  • 4+ years of experience working in the Financial Services/Payments industry with credit card and/or bank payment focus required
  • 2+ years of experience with chargeback dispute management required
  • 2+ years of experience in payments analysis, reconciliation, and reporting within a PayFac or similar financial services environment required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbal)
  • Salesforce and Azure tools
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; advanced Excel preferred
  • Strong attention to detail with swift execution
  • Organized, independent & detail oriented
  • Quick learner
  • SQL knowledge a plus
