Responsibilities

Our client is seeking an Oracle & PostgreSQL DBA/Developer to support a high-impact, large-scale migration project from on-premises to a cloud-based infrastructure. This role involves database administration, scripting, and development, with a strong focus on working in AWS. The ideal candidate has a robust background in database administration with Oracle and PostgreSQL and is looking to transition or grow in a developer-focused role. Hands-on experience with AWS RDS, database automation, and ETL tools is highly valued.

  • Manage and support Oracle and PostgreSQL databases in both on-premises and cloud (AWS) environments
  • Develop and implement database automation scripts, primarily using Shell and Python
  • Execute and optimize database migrations from on-premises to AWS RDS
  • Design, model, and document database schemas, ensuring data normalization and efficient data structures
  • Monitor and tune database performance, including query optimization, indexing, and other performance-enhancing techniques
  • Ensure data security through robust authentication, authorization, encryption, and access control methods
  • Implement backup and recovery solutions and perform regular performance monitoring and tuning
  • Perform data integration and migration tasks, utilizing ETL tools like SSIS or Oracle Data Integrator where possible
  • Collaborate with development and operations teams to enhance data handling and support seamless data movement

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Database Administration
  • Proficiency with Oracle 19c (experience with 23c is a plus) and PostgreSQL databases
  • Experience with AWS RDS and cloud-based database solutions
  • Strong scripting skills in Shell and Python for database automation
  • Proven experience in database design and modeling (E-R diagrams, data normalization)
  • Advanced SQL skills, including query tuning and indexing for performance optimization
  • Familiarity with database security protocols, including authentication, authorization, encryption, and access control
  • Hands-on experience in backup/recovery, performance monitoring, and data warehousing practices

Preferred Requirements

  • Any AWS certifications (highly desired, but not required)
  • Experience with ETL tools such as SSIS or Oracle Data Integrator is a major plus
  • Experience with Oracle Data Integrator or other ETL tools
  • Knowledge of SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS)
  • Strong understanding of data migration strategies and best practices

Clearance Requirements

  • Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; an active Secret clearance is required; but our client can hold up to a Top Secret Clearance if applicable. Please be aware that onboarding can take 4-6 weeks for this position.
