Who We Are

As NHS Scotland's unique provider of a national tele-health and tele-care service, we are responsible for the delivery of health advice and information by telephone and online services to the population of Scotland 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. NHS 24 is a patient-focused service providing the people of Scotland with triage, advice, guidance, referral and information on health and healthcare services.

We have six regional centres Aberdeen, Dundee, South Queensferry, Hillington, Cardonald and Clydebank. NHS 24 supports hybrid working, and this post can be based within any NHS 24 regional centres. The successful candidate must be within commuting distance to a regional centre to attend if required and must also be able to travel to other regional centres when requested to attend meetings, undertake training and any other activities.

The Role

The successful candidate will contribute to bridging the gap between software development, testing and operations in NHS 24, ensuring smooth collaboration and efficient delivery of technology and software products. As well as undertaking a software development role in various projects, where they will support the DevOps team in the development, deployment, implementation and integration of software solutions.

The post holder will provide operational support and carry out small development activities and will also provide administrative support for the DevOps Team for ongoing and new development projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support in the development and implementation of software solutions, in line with DevOps strategies, processes, and tools, to streamline software development and deployment.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to set priorities, define objectives, and align DevOps initiatives with organisational goals.
  • To assist with the maintenance and development of the ICT intranet pages in relation to DevOps to ensure it is a useful communication tool , user friendly accurate, up to date, relevant and provides all staff with a means of accessing relevant, accurate information.
  • Keep up to date with latest developments and approaches within the technology sector, as well as health & care sector in Scotland strategic drivers, to inform strategic direction for the organisation and its software solutions.
  • Managing incidents and service requests to ensure they do not breach SLA’s, the post holder will provide routine advice to enquiries, escalating requests where appropriate or liaising with external systems suppliers on operational issues.

Successful Applicant Will

  • Have advanced IT and keyboard skills, particularly in MS office 365.
  • Be able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities and requirements.
  • Work with a strong focus on customer satisfaction, ensuring high-quality software products and services.
  • Have a Fundamental understanding of software development life cycle, including requirements gathering, design, coding, testing, and deployment.
  • Previously have worked within an IT role preferably within a health-related environment.

Benefits

NHS 24 offers a complete benefits package, with a permanent contract on Band 3 with a salary ranging from £26,869 to £28,998 Per Annum (pro rata if applicable). Placement on salary scale is dependent on confirmation of previous relevant NHS service.
