Change your career, change lives

The Open University is the UK’s largest university, a world leader in flexible part-time education combining a mission to widen access to higher education with research excellence, transforming lives through education.

The role

We are looking to recruit several Associate Lecturers to teach across the BSc in Accounting and Finance, in the School of Business at the Open University.

The position is part-time (approximately 0.15 FTE dependant on module needs) and would involve teaching one or more modules and engagement in other tutor related activities. There are teaching needs on:

B252 | Financial management | Open University Course – starting April 2025.

B253 | Intermediate management accounting | Open University Course – starting April 2025.

B350 Advanced Financial Accounting – starting October 2025.

B351 Governance, Audit and Assurance – starting October 2025.

B352 Advanced Management Accounting and Financial Management – starting April 2026.

B353 Taxation – starting April 2026.

Please specify in your application which of these modules you are able to deliver.

The position is home-based and has no fixed core hours. It is a fixed term contract until 30th September 2026 with the possibility of extension. The annual salary and workload are fixed, but there are significant workload peaks and troughs, mainly linked to providing marking and assessment feedback. This is likely to include exam and end of module marking tasks. Other tasks will be required such as focused student support (individual and forum), peer mentoring and working with the module team on assessment activities and quality improvement. Some evening and weekend work will be required. The appropriate level of FTE will be discussed at interview, and there is the possibility of increasing the FTE later. The starting full-time salary is £37,999 paid pro rata based on your FTE. The position is paid over the calendar year.

There are two module presentations in an academic year on the BSc Accounting and Finance, starting in October and April. Therefore, a teaching contract will be offered in line with these, either starting from March 2025, September 2025 or March 2026 depending on which module(s) you will be working on.
