JOB TITLE: Software Engineer

SALARY: The salary banding for this role is £68,000pa to £83,300pa plus the benefits listed below.

LOCATION: Manchester

HOURS: 35 hours, full time

WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at our Manchester site.

Here at Lloyds Banking Group, we put our customers at the heart of everything we do, and every colleague has an important part to play.

This role is in the Smarter Journeys Lab, an integral part of the amazing Colleague Channels Platform.   The mission of this Lab is to innovate and enhance customer journeys and drive growth through cutting-edge solutions. The Lab's diverse product range includes creating exceptional digital experiences for our customers, such as Fraud Self Service, and optimising colleague efficiency through Diary Management and Workforce Planning. We take pride in our strong culture, with a key focus on inclusivity, innovation, and continuous learning. We are committed to leveraging AI and Automation to deliver significant value to both customers and the business. In 2024, we are in the process of delivering two of the Bank’s pioneering AI products: transforming the Complaints journey and developing a group-wide Knowledge Management solution.

Looking ahead to 2025, we are expanding our use of this technology in Outcome Testing, a critical component of our control environment. This presents an exciting opportunity to enhance customer value by increasing assurance, becoming more data-driven, and utilising predictive, leading-edge technology. We are passionate about being northern-based and putting the North on the map for LBG.

Your accountabilities will include:

  • Leading the design and development of robust software solutions using modern web technologies, particularly JavaScript (React.js / TypeScript).

  • Providing technical guidance and mentorship to software engineers; encouraging a culture of improvement and innovation.

  • Working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality and innovative products, ensuring alignment with business goals.

  • Developing modular, testable code and ensuring adherence to standard methodologies in source code management using Git.

  • Utilising integration tools and cloud infrastructure to implement seamless solutions, ensuring smooth deployment processes.

  • Championing agile development practices, including continuous integration and test automation (TDD, BDD, Playwright).

About you

You will be a seasoned and adaptable individual who can thrive in a fast-paced environment and is eager to learn new skills and technologies. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Extensive experience with modern web technologies, especially TypeScript / JavaScript (ideally React.js and Node.js), and Java with Spring Boot. Knowledge of AI and Algorithms would be desirable.

  • Demonstrated capability to write modular, testable code and implement standard methodologies.

  • Deep understanding of Git and managing change within a source code management system.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the entire application stack.

  • Significant experience with integration tools and cloud infrastructure.

  • Strong knowledge of agile development practices, continuous integration, and test automation (TDD, BDD, Playwright).

Our focus is to ensure we're inclusive every day, building an organisation that reflects modern society and celebrates diversity in all its forms. We want our people to feel that they belong and can be their best, regardless of background, identity or culture. We were one of the first major organisations to set goals on diversity in senior roles, create a menopause health package, and a dedicated Working with Cancer initiative. And it's why we especially welcome applications from underrepresented groups. We're disability confident. So, if you'd like reasonable adjustments to be made to our recruitment processes, just let us know.

We also offer a wide-ranging benefits package, which includes:

  • A generous pension contribution of up to 15%.

  • An annual performance related bonus.

  • Share schemes including free shares.

  • Benefits you can adapt to your lifestyle, such as discounted shopping.

  • 30 days' holiday, with bank holidays on top.

  • A range of wellbeing initiatives and generous parental leave policies.
