Major Responsibilities
  • Integrates and harmonizes all teammate health and safety policies and procedures across the enterprise, inclusive of resources, infrastructure, program creation and deployment, benchmarking, data analytics, and communications.
  • Ensures new hire and ongoing programs support the culture of zero-harm, teammate engagement, and the science of safety principles (effective communication, awareness, high reliability, team member safety initiatives) including materials regarding key safety, employee injury prevention topics, and occupational safety and health topics as required by OSHA and accreditation standards.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates enterprise-wide teammate health and safety programs. Designs, evaluates, and implements comprehensive strategies, procedures, policies, and programs to improve health program effectiveness, ensure adherence to state and federal regulations, and mitigate risks.
  • Provides strategic direction for health programs that ensures continuity, standardization, and best practices for a safe environment for patients and caregivers throughout Advocate Health.
  • Implements technology across the enterprise to create a more seamless and efficient experience while enhancing tracking capabilities.
  • Creates and promotes a culture of health throughout the organization. Ensures ongoing education and training to encourage teammate health and safety awareness. Promotes proactive and preventive health activities to ensure program requirements are met consistently and injuries are reduced.
  • Works in collaboration with leaders to integrate best practices, establish health goals, and communicate and reinforce health and safety policies and procedures. Directs teams to identify and mitigate organizational issues related to employee health.
  • Directs readiness initiatives and manages and performs site audits to ensure regulatory compliance, verify health requirements are implemented and evaluate the effectiveness of programs.
  • Develop and implement risk reduction strategies and tactical plans to support a culture of zero-harm that includes accountability measures and follow-up.
  • Collaborates with worker’s compensation in the monitoring of loss claims and advises affiliates in the handling of claims. Develops strategies, policies, and processes to improve the worker’s compensation experience and to reduce costs and cases.
  • Develops and executes clinical strategies to achieve key clinical, service and efficiency requirements by leveraging key data. Ensures adherence to and assists in the achievement of clinical performance outcomes and measurements utilizing a collaborative process that focuses on commitment, performance improvement, and the use of best practices.

Minimum Job Requirements

Education

Typically requires a bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field.

Certification / Registration / License

Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the team member practices.

Work Experience

Typically requires 10 years of experience in health care related experience. Includes 5 years of management experience in management of staff, budgets, and multiple employee health services and safety functions with multi-site accountability.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Advanced knowledge of state and federal regulations, handicapped discrimination laws, and hospital/clinic accreditation agency requirements.
  • Advanced knowledge of current occupational and employee health best practices.
  • Advanced knowledge of development and trends in health care practices.
  • Ability to work and function in a complex corporate system environment.
  • Ability to build teamwork and trust for employee health programs.
  • Strong people skills are essential as well as strong oral and written communication skills and a proven record of collaborating effectively with all levels of employees, management, executives, and other organizations to address difficult and controversial issues.
  • Demonstrated advanced consulting skills and ability to effectively develop, implement, and apply organizational strategies to address complex sourcing, recruitment, and business challenges.
Preferred Job Requirements

Education

Master’s degree in nursing, public health, or related field.
