The Public Sector Portfolio Management Group within KeyBank provides capital and traditional banking products and services in the form of loans, leases, letters of credit, and other products to state and local municipalities, as well as to public and private not-for-profit higher education institutions. This role is an appealing opportunity for an experienced banker to expand their career within public sector finance. Previous experience in lending to municipalities is mandatory. A Vice President Portfolio Manager will perform financial analysis, underwriting, ongoing credit analysis and covenant management on a wide variety of municipal clients. A VP will review loan documentation, make credit decisions and recommendations in accordance with sound credit-granting principles and in compliance with bank policies & procedures. Additionally, the VP will be responsible for ongoing credit monitoring for a portfolio of clients and assist product partners in cross-selling additional bank products.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Analyzing and researching municipal issuers and borrowers in a wide range of sectors (general governmental, K-12, pension, economic development, higher education, etc.)
- Gather and analyze all relevant financial data for a client or prospect, including analyzing historical performance, accurately calculating credit metrics, identifying risks and mitigants, assessing creditworthiness, etc.
- Prepare thorough credit underwriting documents identifying credit risks and mitigants, demographic concerns, financial trends, and other pertinent credit issues.
- Participating in the underwriting of various credit structures
- Engaging in comprehensive client and credit research
- Prepare detailed underwriting reports and recommendations for approval by credit officers.
- Work on various one-time projects
- Interaction with deal team members and clients
- Take part in the approval process for lending commitments, amendments, waivers, and consents, including answering questions from Credit Executives
- Ensure compliance with all Know Your Customer (“KYC”) regulations.
- Properly maintain documentation and necessary business records
- Monitor ongoing financial performance of municipalities in the portfolio and tracking covenant compliance.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field
- 7+ years of experience within Portfolio Management, Credit Risk, or Relationship Management
- 3+ years of experience working within municipal finance.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
This position is eligible to earn a base salary in the range of $120,000 to $135,000 annually depending on location and job-related factors such as level of experience. Compensation for this role also includes eligibility for short-term incentive compensation and deferred incentive compensation subject to individual and company performance
