Job description

Job Scope:

The Royal Society is an endorsing body for the Global Talent Visa, applying our sector expertise to manage visa endorsements for research and innovation professionals wishing to work in the UK. This post will play an important role in helping the Royal Society expand the Global Talent visa, which is vital to the mobility of the academic and research community. Working with colleagues and Fellows you will work as part of a small team to manage the visa endorsement application process, taking ownership of internal processing and being responsible for the management and reporting of confidential data.  You will also help develop and deliver external engagement, including working with other endorsing bodies, the Home Office, as well as other principal stakeholders, in particular immigration and HR advisors at UK universities and research institutes. This is an opportunity to gain unique exposure to the global talent and immigration landscape.

 

The main purpose of the role is:

  • To support the delivery of the Royal Society's role as an 'endorsing body' for the Global Talent Visa.
  • To deliver the application and endorsement process for the Global Talent Visa, in accordance with agreed standards.
  • To act as a knowledgeable liaison for applicants, universities, research institutes and partners, providing guidance and support.
  • To support ongoing improvement in the expansion of the Global Talent visa.

Hours: Full-time, 35 hours per week

Location: Carlton House Terrace, London, SW1Y 5AG plus hybrid remote working                 

Pay Band: C

Salary: £38, 005 per

Contract: Permanent

Responsibilities:
  • To manage relationship with applicants and UK universities and research institutes, acting as main point of contact throughout endorsement application process, answering enquiries and providing support.
  • To manage relationship with Chairs and Society Fellows, identifying peer reviewers and liaising with them throughout the process in line with diversity, equity and inclusion principles, supporting an equitable decision-making process.
  • To conduct review processes through fast-track and peer review routes, including conducting eligibility checks, facilitating peer review and returning endorsement decisions, ensuring the effective handling of applications within required service standards.
  • To carry-out decision outcomes, including preparing, recording and issuing endorsement decisions and feedback.
  • To be responsible for accurate record keeping and data collection/retention, and provision of data, analysis, reports & summaries of Global Talent Visa information as required.
  • Working with the Senior Manager and other colleagues, manage operational aspects of partnerships and help maintain strong and positive cooperation on services with the Home Office, other endorsing bodies and other key stakeholders.
  • To support the promotion of the Global Talent Visa to key audiences, including assisting with presentations and participation in events and meetings to raise awareness and increase engagement.
  • To work collaboratively with others to support continuous ongoing improvement and implementation of good practice, including contributing to review of documentation, procedures and processes and scheme development/evaluation to ensure provision is relevant for the science community and is delivered efficiently and effectively.
  • To role model desired behaviours in line with the RS Grants Team Charter.
  • To share experience and ideas with others in the Section and the Society, as well as externally, and contribute broadly to the Royal Society’s mission and priorities.
