About The Role
Opentrons Labworks, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated Cost Accounting Manager who will report to the Controller. This newly created role will provide experienced cost accounting and reporting expertise to support the Opentrons Robotics business unit. This role will have a dynamic range of responsibilities including, but not limited to: preparing and reviewing cost allocations, supporting the month-end reconciliation process of production orders, intercompany transactions, capitalization and subsequent recognition of cost of goods sold. This role will build out reporting of production order costing and cost of goods sold for internal and external reporting, partnering closely internally with key stakeholders in Finance, Commercial and Operations. This role will require strong proficiency in Excel and understanding of reporting and analysis of operational data, including allocations of overhead expenditures. This role will be required to work closely with our manufacturing team based in China.
What You Will Do
- Own accounting and reporting for cost of goods sold in accordance with US GAAP
- Analyze data to cost out and maintain burden rates and overhead allocations for commercial manufacturing including labor and benefits, depreciation, rent and maintenance
- Prepare journal entries to accurately cost out and allocate overhead expenditures based on manufacturing schedule and production runs
- Design and maintain detailed reporting and analysis of components of production order costs (direct vs. indirect) and cost of goods sold for internal operational reporting and external reporting disclosures
- Determine allocation methodology using underlying data (i.e. time entry, production runs) to classify costs accurately and allocate appropriately across products
- Demonstrate critical thinking to enhance existing manual processes driven by future growth and expansion
- Complete reconciliation and variance analysis to support month-end general ledger close and periodic reporting processes and timelines
- Partner with Operations and Commercial on demand planning
Who We Are Looking For
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent and with a history of progressively increasing responsibility
Experience:
- 5 years of experience
- International and multi-entity experience required
- Previous manufacturing or cost accounting and reporting experience required
- Experience in Instrumentation and/or Medical Device industries preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Eagerness to learn and develop wide-ranging skills and process knowledge
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge of US GAAP including compliance requirements
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel required
- Proficiency using NetSuite or similar ERP strongly desired
- Ability to speak Mandarin would be a significant plus
Compensation: The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $120,000 and $140,000 per year; base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and years of experience. We typically target mid-range for well-qualified candidates. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including equity and full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. Following employment, growth beyond the hiring range is possible based on performance.
