We’re Looking for a Programme Leader (Journalism) to join our Bauer Academy Team on a part-time basis in Peterborough.

The role:

As a Programme Lead (Journalism), you’ll manage and deliver top-notch apprenticeship programmes, ensuring learners thrive in their journalism careers. From facilitating workshops (online and in-person) to guiding learners through end-point assessments, your role will be vital in shaping industry-ready journalists.

 

The Team:

This role reports to Bauer Academy’s Head of Apprenticeship Delivery, and works closely with the Head of Programme Performance, Head of Quality and Head of Learning Solutions. 

 

This is a part-time hybrid position where you will work from home and our Peterborough Office.

 

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Managing the apprenticeship programmes to meet KPIs, including scheduling, onboarding, and ensuring resources are available via the Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Delivering engaging workshops (online and in-person) that meet quality standards; coordinate and brief tutors as needed.
  • Providing clear and timely marking, feedback, and support to learners.
  • Tracking assignments, off-the-job (OTJ) hours, and attendance, taking swift action on underperformance.
  • Conducting learner and line manager progress reviews every 10-12 weeks, documenting all sessions per academy policies.
  • Staying updated on NCTJ requirements and coordinate exams, mock tests, and retakes, ensuring smooth execution.
  • Uploading learner portfolios to the NCTJ system and providing necessary materials via the LMS.
  • Collaborating with the Operations Manager to ensure end-point assessments (EPA) meet deadlines and quality standards.

What You’ll Bring:

  • Strong journalism expertise with up-to-date practical industry experience.
  • Qualified or experienced in delivering journalism teaching based on best practices.
  • Proficient in classroom tuition and practical journalism sessions (virtual and face-to-face).
  • Teaching qualification preferred; support provided for those without one.
  • Excellent project management and organisational skills; adept at multitasking.
  • Knowledge of NCTJ qualifications, apprenticeships, OTJ, EPA, and Ofsted requirements (training provided).
  • Strong IT skills, including experience with Learner Management Systems and online teaching methods (training provided).
  • Collaborative, proactive, and flexible with excellent interpersonal and coaching skills.
