Oracle DBA
Remote| India

The Database Administrator will work as part of a team to supply complete support for all aspects of managed database and application infrastructure operations to a variety of Pythian’s customers.


What will you be doing?
  • Coordinate, analyze, design, implement and administer database solutions as per customers needs.
  • Oversee backup, database real application clustering, mirroring, replication, failover, and restoration and recovery of corrupted databases, develop and review action plans (such as maintenance, deployment, upgrades, etc.), and complete all relevant customer documentation. Develop a thorough understanding of all relevant customer information including warnings, handoffs, briefing notes, etc.
  • Recommend best practices for improvements to current operational processes
  • Configure and maintain servers at the database and infrastructure level
  • Troubleshoot Database operational problems
  • Administer proactive database and infrastructure daily checks
  • Respond to monitoring alerts
  • Communicate status and planning activities to customers and other team members
  • Learn different database technologies and provide support
  • Provide initial support to our customers on infrastructure and database issues, troubleshooting, and resolution of problems related to performance issues for database systems. 
  • Respond to customer’s tickets in a timely and efficient manner and escalate issues with urgency when required (aligned to ITIL best practice).
  • Analyze customer’s infrastructure and processes and recommend to customers, best practices for improvements to current operational processes and procedures to ensure that databases remain operational for maximum uptime and recoverability.
  • Administration of backup procedures and disaster recovery plans, provide proactive monitoring to head-off potential issues before they become incidents, respond to monitoring alerts, and carry out troubleshooting of operational problems.
  • Contribute to, improve and maintain team documentation about customer systems and infrastructure, procedures, policies and schedules.
  • Work collaboratively with teammates to contribute to the continuous improvement of our working culture.
  • Mentor and cross-train teammates on technologies and processes, to improve the technical excellence of the team.
  • Participate in the team’s rotational shift pattern and on-call coverage rotation plan


  • What do we need from you?
  • 4+ years of database administration experience managing Oracle databases (including Oracle RAC) , Basics of Oracle Exadata with good foundational understanding of Oracle database technologies. 
  • Curiosity mindset and tenacity to fully diagnose why something went wrong
  • Troubleshooting and performance improvement skills including index creation, query optimization, schema changes etc.
  • Understanding of database security management 
  • Experience managing logical and physical replication 
  • Knowledge of Oracle Data Guard and Golden Gate replication
  • Required Knowledge  of Oracle Enterprise Manager  with some Linux knowledge
