Job Title: Sales Tax Specialist

Job Description

We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Sales Tax Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing sales and use tax compliance, preparing and filing tax returns, and staying updated on current tax laws and regulations. This role requires excellent organizational and time management skills, as well as proficiency in Excel and various tax-related software.

Responsibilities

  • Keep current on tax laws and regulations for responsible states
  • Ensure timely processing and updates on rates and prepayments
  • Stay abreast of changes in industry regulations
  • Respond promptly to both internal and external emails and chats
  • Conduct initial reviews of all sales tax exemption certificates
  • Prepare and file sales/use tax returns and amendments for a variety of clients
  • Respond to and promptly resolve notices
  • Communicate with clients regarding filings, registrations, and notices
  • Manage voluntary disclosure communications and filings
  • Reconcile sales tax liability accounts
  • Maintain updated tax return filing calendars
  • Identify and implement process improvements
  • Perform additional responsibilities as skills and experience merit
  • Prepare sales reports to accurately report sales, use, and any other local taxes for business clients
  • Interpret and research sales data to be input into sales reports
  • File taxes for multiple jurisdictions, states, and localities through online filing and mailing paper returns
  • Make timely sales tax payments
  • Prepare monthly purchase reports to calculate use tax on qualifying purchases
  • Work in programs such as Webex, OneSource, Rightview Web, ANTS, Smartsheets, Avalara TTR, and Microsoft
  • Communicate effectively with peers, other departments, and leadership on the status of clients, issues, and notices
  • Respond to client emails, calls, and tax notices
  • Conduct independent sales and use tax research
  • Communicate with filing jurisdictions to clarify rates, issues, penalties, and due dates
  • Process 300-400 filings a month, spread out through 20-30 clients

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $35.00
