About the role
As a Trade Credit Manager, you will be part of a top performing claims team serving all of North America under Intact Insurance. You will be responsible for both handling and managing, analyzing, responding to and resolving trade credit insurance claims. The team will depend on your expertise to ensure thoroughness in your file analysis, particularly with regard to coverage, liability, quantum and collection activities.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Respond to and investigate trade credit insurance claims both by supervising others and handling large complex claims directly.
- Review coverage under the policy.
- Determine if all conditions precedent to coverage have been meet.
- Review and apply policy deductibles and co-insurance in order to determine amount of coverage available under the policy.
- Participate in bankruptcy process, submit proof of claim and work with trustee to resolve carrier’s claim.
- Work with underwriters and brokers to resolve pre-claim notices and other financial issues.
- Subrogate, collect and negotiate settlements with creditors for amounts paid to Insured.
- Manage all administrative aspects of claims files.
- Develop working relationships with underwriters and producers to successfully review and troubleshoot claims notices and review pre-claim financial issues.
- Work within the financial authority granted and seek approval for transactions in excess of one’s authority
- Record and communicate in a timely and effective manner all actions taken on a file to support the decision made.
- Manages assigned staff, including development, goal setting, skill assessment, staff selection, role alignment, and performance appraisals of staff. Provides frequent communication and measurement of goals. Oversees training and personal development programs within the group.
- Reports directly to the VP of Claims.
Decision-Making Authority/Accountability Level
- Under minimal supervision, this position is responsible for the file quality and customer service results of his/her unit. Provides oversight to ensure resolution of issues related to coverage, liability and damages.
- Responsible for the activities and decisions of staff and has authority to make decision regarding high exposure claim settlements. Must be fully versed in insurance exposures, state insurance laws, corporate underwriting positions, and claims management philosophy.
- Claims decisions significantly impact the financial results of the company.
- Must have the skills needed to manage a staff. Has the authority to hire, fire and other aspects of performance management.
Minimum Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements
- Must possess high level skills and extensive claims technical knowledge including products and industry. Legal climate background is essential for associated business unit.
- Exceptional management skills, including informal training and formal development of staff.
- Must have superior analytical, negotiation, decision making, problem solving, organizational and presentation skills. Must be a proven self-starter with strong mulit-tasking and relationship management skills.
- Must be able to communicate professionally and effectively including expert oral, written and listening skills. Must be able to work both independently and as a member of a team and have the ability to interact with diverse groups of individuals.
- Requires the ability to maintain confidential information. Must be able to work in a fast pace and rapidly changing environment.
- Demonstrated proficiency with computer software including Microsoft Office suite and other Claims tracking tools.
- Must maintain strong professional knowledge of industry trends, legislative issues and the marketplace for associated line of business.
Education and Experience Preferred
- Post-secondary degree in law, business administration, finance or accounting preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in Trade Credit.
- 3-5 years of supervisory/management experience.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and French is preferred. "Need to interact on a regular basis with colleagues across the country."
Supervisory Responsibility
- This position will have 2+ direct reports.
- Oversees the direction of all claim files and personnel within the department/unit. Decisions impact the financial results of the company.
- Accountable for the decisions made, and actions taken by direct reports.
- Responsible for ensuring that their team achieves service standards and annual business objectives.
Necessary Tasks
- Computer and phone use required.
- Must be able to read data from a computer screen or from documents.
- Ability to travel within North America for business purposes.
