ABOUT THE ROLE

As the Senior Associate, Chemistry, you will contribute to the technical development of new formulations for Air Care products in support of SC Johnson’s international brands. You will formulate and develop new products, troubleshoot issues, support line extensions, and assist with technology advancements which result in consumer preferred benefits. You will participate on cross-functional teams and work under supervision performing tasks somewhat independently, receiving direction in goal-oriented terms.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with multifunctional core teams (R&D (Research & Development), Design, Marketing, Claims, Marketing Research, and Product Supply) to successfully identify, develop, and launch high quality new products.

  • Work with multiple product types and have the ability to translate user needs into consumer-preferred solutions, which is an important aspect of the product development process.

  • Conduct performance testing & draft technical bridging rationale to support claims.

  • Develop formulations to meet internal ingredient standards, fragrances and industry best practices for safety, scientific significance, accuracy, and recordkeeping.

  • Monitor stability testing, including first production run stabilities, and maintain records thoroughly and concisely compliant with good laboratory practices.

  • Prepare samples and track documentation for stability, micro-challenge, toxicological, clinical, and performance testing. Coordinate outside testing with appropriate resources as required.

  • Interpret consumer test results and provide recommendations for product improvements and advantaged claims

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU’LL BRING

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry or other related science and a minimum 1 year relevant work experience.

  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS

  • Up to 3 years of relevant work experience

  • Experience working with fragrances in formulation of products is highly preferred.

  • Knowledge of the product development process and experience related to various formulation, fragrances and delivery system technologies related to products (e.g., aerosol, emulsion, polymers, surfactants, & solvents).

  • Understanding of the functional properties, proper use, and the environmental impact of ingredients.

  • Scientific curiosity and the ability to solve technical problems related to formulation and manufacturing.

  • Cross-functional teaming skills to effectively work across internal organizational boundaries.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate accurately and concisely to multiple levels within the company.

  • Highly proactive and results-oriented approach.

  • Proficient computer skills; will be required to become competent in the use of PLM (SAP based product management system).

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • Position is Full-Time, regular business hours, Monday-Friday

  • Office, Lab and Pilot Plant work environment: Remote work available once a week for eligible employees

  • Ability to lift 10 – 40 pounds

  • Travel up to 10%

  • This role is not eligible for relocation
