Job description

The Director, Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) plays a critical role in the HR team by overseeing the governance, delivery, service levels, and maintenance of all HR technology platforms and systems. This includes system configuration, business process management, reporting, dashboards, integrations, and security. This leader will establish and implement strategies for vendor/platform selection, optimizing HR technology systems, ensuring seamless functionality, and enhancing user experience. They will collaborate with HR, IT, Finance and other stakeholders to identify system improvements and solutions, while providing guidance and coaching to a team of professionals.

Primary Accountabilities: 

Technical (50%)

  • Oversee the management, development, ongoing maintenance, and technical support of HR technology systems, including but not limited to Human Capital Management (HCM) platforms, applicant tracking systems (ATS), learning management systems (LMS), and other HR tools.

  • Partner with subject matter experts across HR functions (e.g., talent acquisition, benefits, learning, compensation, performance management) to ensure data integrity, process efficiency, and system functionality.

  • Act as a subject matter expert for HR technology, staying informed of emerging trends and enhancements to maximize system capabilities.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally to document requirements, assess downstream impacts, configure, and test new functionality or enhancements for all HR systems.

Strategic (30%)

  • Develop and execute the HR systems strategy to support business goals, ensuring alignment with organizational needs and objectives.

  • Provide innovative solutions to address business challenges, leveraging HR technology to enhance efficiency and the overall associate experience.

  • Lead system implementations and upgrades, including requirements gathering, testing, change management, go-live, and post-implementation reviews.

  • Establish and maintain a governance process for prioritizing system enhancements and ensuring compliance with internal and external audit standards.

  • Create and deliver comprehensive training and documentation to promote effective system usage and adoption across the organization.

  • Define and implement strategic process and workflow automation across HR systems and related integrations with IT, Finance, including supporting identity and provisioning systems.  

  • Lead efficiency initiatives through end-to-end automated associate onboarding/offboarding in collaboration with cross-departmental counterparts and stakeholders.

Leadership (20%)

  • Build and lead a high-performing HRIS team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and collaboration.

  • Define and monitor key performance indicators for HR systems and team processes, identifying trends, root causes, and opportunities for improvement.

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to leadership, providing insights and recommendations on leveraging technology for strategic HR initiatives.

  • Establish and maintain strong partnerships with vendors and service providers to ensure effective delivery of contracted services and system enhancements.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years’ progressive HRIS experience with a focus on managing diverse HR technology ecosystems and driving organizational performance.

  • Proven experience with system design, configuration, and administration of HR platforms (e.g., HCM, ATS, LMS).

  • Expertise in managing large-scale system implementations, upgrades, and integrations across various HR platforms.

  • Strong change management and leadership skills, with the ability to guide cross-functional teams through complex projects.

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, analytics, HR, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.

  • Project management experience, including budget management and business case development.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience managing vendor relationships and holding external partners accountable for service levels.

  • Familiarity with HR system governance and data security best practices.

  • SHRM or related certification is preferred.

  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to translate business needs into system solutions.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all organizational levels.
