Apprentice – Upstream Asset Valuation

The Role:

S&P Global Commodity Insights’ Apprenticeship Program is a 12-months skill development program. We are seeking candidates who will be working within our Upstream Asset Valuation Team where you will engage with over 3,000 assets updated annually. As an apprentice, you will gain invaluable insights into production economics and have the opportunity to interact with clients across various sectors, including oil and gas and banking. The collaboration with the Commodity Insights umbrella ensures a rich learning environment and exposure to industry leaders, providing you with a solid foundation for a future in the global energy sector.

The Team:

The Latin America and Frontier North America Upstream Asset Valuation team is a vibrant group of achievers who blend hard work with a fun, supportive atmosphere. With diverse backgrounds in finance, engineering (petroleum, chemical, material), and international affairs, the team champions values like openness, teamwork, integrity, and a strong sense of community, prioritizing ‘WE’ over ‘ME.’

Responsibilities:

  • Enhance asset analysis by gathering and providing key data to principal analysts.
  • Boost team productivity through data automation and VBA implementation.
  • Assist in cost analysis for valuations, ensuring accurate and comprehensive assessments.
  • Refine gas price assumptions and research tariffs used in valuation models to optimize forecasts.
  • Support AI initiatives within the team to advance our analytical capabilities.
  • Collaborate closely with team members to ensure data accuracy and consistency across projects.

What We’re Looking For:

Required Qualifications:

  • Recent Graduation or Post Graduation degree in Petroleum Engineering, Geology, Economics, Finance, or related fields.
  • Proficiency in Excel, including conditional formatting, pivot tables, and VBA.
  • Solid understanding of upstream oil and gas concepts, including NPV, IRR, Breakeven, Capex, Opex, Tariffs, Government Take, Royalties, and Netback Prices.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Self-motivated and inquisitive with a strong desire to learn.
  • Collaborative spirit with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to multitask while meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Quick learner with strong listening skills.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in strategic report writing and business frameworks.
  • Proficiency in creating PowerPoint presentations and skilled in Power BI.
