What you'll Do

As the new Engineering Director, you will have a wide range of responsibilities and opportunities to make a significant impact on the success of our team and the Firefly web application. Here's an overview of what you'll be doing:

Lead and develop the engineering team: You will guide and mentor a dedicated group of engineers throughout the entire development process, from research and technical design to security assessment, implementation, and delivery of features for the Firefly web application. Your leadership will inspire and empower the team to deliver high-quality work.

Collaborate with product management and clients: You will work closely with product management and clients to define and refine the product roadmap, user experience, priorities, and schedule. Your insights and input will help shape the direction of the Firefly application, ensuring it meets the needs and expectations of our users.

Lead the progress of the product: You will take ownership of the product's development life cycle, closely monitoring progress, identifying risks and opportunities, and ensuring access to senior leadership when needed. Your ability to navigate challenges and provide clear insight into the product's status will be crucial to its success.

Attract, hire, and retain top talent: Building a strong team is critical, and you will play a pivotal role in attracting, hiring, onboarding, and retaining exceptional engineers. Through mentorship, coaching and support, you will help the team grow both professionally and personally.

Make data-driven decisions: You will rely on a combination of data and your instincts to make informed decisions and drive the team's progress at a rapid pace. Your ability to balance speed and quality will be instrumental in achieving our goals.

What you need to succeed

To succeed in this role as the Engineering Director, the following skills and qualifications are essential:

Educational Background: A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience, provides a solid foundation for this position.

Software Engineering Experience: A minimum of 12 years of proven experience in software engineering is required. This experience should demonstrate a deep understanding of software development principles, practices, and methodologies.

Leadership Experience: You should have a minimum of 6 years of experience leading software engineering teams. This includes successfully managing and guiding teams to deliver high-quality software solutions.

Strong Technical Background: You should possess a strong technical background and analytical abilities. Experience in developing commercially successful single-page web applications using modern frameworks such as React, Lit, GraphQL, and modern JavaScript languages like TypeScript is crucial.

Systems Architecture: You should have excellent technical skills in evaluating systems architecture, particularly using extensive knowledge of full-stack technologies. Ideally, you should have experience working with GPU-based infrastructure, enabling you to make informed decisions regarding infrastructure and performance optimization.

Leadership and Decision-Making: Strong leadership skills are necessary to drive consensus on requirements and ensure timely decision-making. Your ability to provide guidance, prioritize tasks, and manage resources effectively will be crucial to the team's success.

Collaboration and Design: A passion for collaborating with design teams from concept to production is important. Your ability to facilitate effective communication and collaboration between engineers and designers will contribute to the overall success of the projects.

Team Development: A consistent record of developing, leading, coaching, and mentoring software engineers is vital. Your ability to foster a positive and growth-oriented environment, ensuring the team's professional development, is essential.

Distributed Team Experience: Experience working in diverse, global, and team-focused environments is highly valued. The ability to collaborate and adapt to different cultures, time zones, and work styles will contribute to the team's success.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several  U.S. geographic markets, and we pay differently based on those defined markets. The U.S. pay range for this position is $173,300 -- $344,400 annually. Pay within this range varies by work location and may also depend on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for the job location during the hiring process.

At Adobe, for sales roles starting salaries are expressed as total target compensation (TTC = base + commission), and short-term incentives are in the form of sales commission plans.  Non-sales roles starting salaries are expressed as base salary and short-term incentives are in the form of the Annual Incentive Plan (AIP).

In addition, certain roles may be eligible for long-term incentives in the form of a new hire equity award.
