Position Overview
Reporting into the Vice President, People Relations, People Business Partners (PBPs) advise a portfolio of local and national teams in developing and implementing high-level, holistic strategies to create positive staff and corps experiences and transformative cultures. Business Partners provide leadership and management coaching to leaders to support achievement of our national and local team People goals and priorities. Using quantitative and qualitative data analysis, PBPs serve as a bridge to escalate critical issues, articulate a comprehensive view of People trends between site and headquarters partners to the leadership of the People Department, Site Operations, and City Year’s senior leaders.
Job Description
Employee Relations: Manage, advise, and resolve complex employee relations issues by undertaking the following activities:
- Supporting conflict resolution
- Investigating allegations of misconduct
- Encouraging staff/AmeriCorps Member (ACMs) engagement
- Guiding managers on how to address performance concerns
- Clarify and enforce People Team processes and procedures
- Connect ACMs/staff to org-wide resources and People Team resources when issues related to disabilities, mental health, and emergencies arise
- Supporting accountability through progressive discipline procedures
- Supporting the termination process
- Provide HR-related advice on restructuring and workforce planning process
Portfolio Coaching and Support: Provide portfolio with support and guidance on how to position site leadership and/or vertical leaders to make sound and compliant management decisions and become strong people managers through:
- Improving work relationships
- Building morale
- Increasing productivity
- Retaining employees
Strategic Problem Solving: Generate solutions, programs and policies for employee relations issues impacting ACMs/staff org-wide
Policy Development and Implementation: Provide recommendations and adjustment/creation of new policies aligned with HR industry best practices and ensure understanding across business units.
Team Collaboration and Learning: Contributes to the People Relations team by being present, actively engaged and embracing Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging that ultimately impact the larger People, Experience and Culture department and organization.

Qualifications:

- Have a track record in developing collaborative relationships, and a successful track record of providing advice and counsel to senior leaders, with a relentless focus on understanding and addressing stakeholder’s needs.
- Have strong organizational skills and the ability to balance and support multiple high-priority projects simultaneously.
- Have excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills, including using story-telling strategically to inspire diverse audiences.
- Have experience conducting conflict resolution, coaching, and group facilitation exercises, with a high level of diplomacy, discretion, and problem solving ability.
