VarSome is created by Saphetor, a Switzerland-based precision medicine company with offices in Lausanne, Boston, and Athens, using bioinformatics to apply human genome data to improve health and lives worldwide. 


Saphetor is pioneering the use of big-data sequencing technology, such as exome and whole-genome sequencing, for clinical practice. We are involved in both clinical research and diagnostics, providing our clients with quality analysis and interpretation of next-generation DNA sequencing (NGS) data. Role Responsibilities:

  • Mentor and support a team of SysAdmins and DevOps engineers. Ensure they have the tools to do their daily work, set objectives and conduct performance reviews and enable them to progress in their career path.
  • Coordinate with product and project management and lead the team into prioritising, planning, estimating and delivering on time the necessary work. 
  • Act as the liaison with other technology teams, to facilitate their work, align on common goals and foster a culture of collaboration.
  • Coordinate planned releases and maintenance procedures, ensuring deployment processes are followed to reduce risks related to downtime or deployment failures and that changes are reviewed before being deployed to production environments.
  • Continuously work for the refinement and improvement of processes related to the Devops and SysAdmin team.
  • Actively participate in the design and development of automation solutions for deployment and configuration management, monitoring and logging solutions.
  • Ensure that security is embedded in all steps of the team’s processes and that the team’s work is compliant with all applicable standards (IVDR, GRPS, ISO27001).
  • Constantly aim to minimise the functional cost related to infrastructure and especially cloud environments by implementing appropriate solutions and strategies.
  • Provide on call support according to scheduled rotation


What you will bring: 


  • Proficient in CI/CD pipelines, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), automation tools (Ansible, Jenkins or similar), and scripting (Python, Bash)
  • Ability to manage and mentor a team, set goals, and ensure collaboration between development and DevOps teams.
  • Experience in process improvement, monitoring, and performance tuning to enhance software delivery.
  • Understanding of security best practices, including secure coding, monitoring, and compliance requirements.
  • Solid experience with Linux servers (User administration, System maintenance)
  • Great experience with physical server management (Supermicro, firmware updates, IPMI admin)
  • Network principles understanding similar to CCNA and hands-on experience on configuring, upgrading and managing switches and routers (Cisco)
  • Experience installing, configuring and maintaining services such as MySQL, Nginx, uwsgi, etc.
  • Good knowledge and experience of virtualization technologies, such as KVM, Kubernetes and Docker and monitoring and graphing tools like Nagios and Grafana
  • Ability to build and monitor services on production servers
  • Familiarity with load balancing, firewalls, (Opnsense, HAproxy etc)
  • Experience in setting up, maintaining and making use of tools available on Cloud Provides (e.g. google, amazon, etc)
  • Be a flexible team player, stepping into a variety of roles
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken)
