The Buyer I is responsible for purchasing production materials, plant and maintenance equipment, supplies and services in accordance with prescribed purchasing regulations and procedures; reviewing and analyzing purchase requisitions, investigating and developing sources of supplies, issuing RFQ requests, and reviewing quotations; specializing in assigning material categories and purchasing goods and services consistent with our values.
Duties & Responsibilities: Order production materials, plant and maintenance equipment, supplies and services of a specialized or complex nature in accordance with prescribed purchasing regulations and procedures. Review purchase requisitions and purchase goods and services consistent with our values. Effectively represent the Company in its relationships with vendors and suppliers to assure goodwill and continued availability of material. Provide assistance to engineering and facilities personnel in preparing Request for Quote (RFQ) documents required for selecting products and suppliers. Provides support in analyzing the quotes and vendor responses. Determine and correct problems that exist regarding sources of supply, availability of material and delivery. Monitor the quality of vendor products and deliveries and find alternate sources for vendors that are not performing within Proto Labs requirements. Effectively communicates with others within the company. Adhere to all quality and safety standards within the department. Maintain clean and organized work area with emphasis on safety, quality, efficiency, and utilization. Continually seek to improve work processes and individual performance. Adhere to all company policies and operational procedures. Perform additional tasks as assigned. Education & Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Industrial Technology, Engineering, Supply Chain or related field OR equivalent experience in a manufacturing, technical or business environment 1+ years of experience in a purchasing role or relevant supply chain role Preferred Qualifications:1+ years of experience working with an MRP program inside an ERP System Proficient with all Microsoft Office products. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, procedures, within Supply Chain Detail oriented to be able to do full RFQ’s with multiple materials and suppliers Strong communication skills both written and verbal Proto Labs maintains ITAR-compliant operations in all of our United States based facilities. Work Environment:
Indoors (A/C); nonsmoking; the majority of this job function is performed in an office setting requiring normal safety precautions. However, there may be job duties that require the employee to spend time in the manufacturing areas exposed to machinery and noise; eye protection occasionally required. Occasionally works in outside weather conditions. Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.
