The job in a nutshell

We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a talented team of software engineers dedicated to evolving and optimizing our core assessment tools. You’ll be responsible for guiding the team through the product development lifecycle using Agile and SCRUM methodologies to ensure our products are robust, user-centric, and scalable. In this role, you won't just manage from the sidelines—you’ll be actively involved in the technical work, collaborating closely with developers on code reviews, providing input on coding practices, and supporting the release and quality processes.

As an Engineering Manager, you will work closely with product managers and cross-functional teams to prioritize tasks, define project goals, and promote best practices that align with our mission of unbiased hiring. In this fully remote role, you’ll foster a collaborative and high-performance team culture, ensuring alignment and clarity even in asynchronous settings. Your hands-on approach will help bridge the gap between management and development, ensuring a seamless flow of information and consistent technical oversight.

You’ll spend time on the following
  • Lead, mentor, and support a globally distributed team of software engineers, building a strong culture of collaboration, accountability, and innovation.
  • Set the technical direction for our core products, overseeing architecture and design decisions to balance scalability, performance, and user experience.
  • Act as SCRUM master in an Agile environment, driving sprint planning, retrospectives, and daily stand-ups to keep the team on track and aligned.
  • Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to prioritize tasks and ensure alignment on project goals and deliverables.
  • Be a hands-on Engineering Manager who actively collaborates with developers, participating in code reviews, pair programming, and contributing to coding as needed.
  • Promote engineering excellence through code reviews, test-driven development, and best practices in software craftsmanship.
  • Produce quality metrics on the software development lifecycle process (KPIs, KRs) to track and enhance team performance.
  • Continuously improve CI/CD pipelines and deployment processes to ensure a smooth and efficient development lifecycle.
  • Engage in incident management and troubleshooting to quickly resolve issues and minimize disruption.
  • Advocate for high-quality standards and involve yourself in quality processes to ensure code reliability and maintainability.

Here's what we are looking for
  • You’re inspired by our mission to put one billion people in dream jobs.
  • You fully align with our values and bring a collaborative, proactive mindset.
  • Proven experience as a Software Engineer or Engineering Manager, leading teams in Agile and SCRUM environments.
  • Experience managing the full software development lifecycle from planning to deployment in a SaaS or similar tech environment.
  • Strong understanding of backend and frontend development practices, microservices, and distributed architectures.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS) and continuous integration/deployment pipelines.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and strategic thinking to overcome complex technical challenges.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills to clearly articulate technical concepts, decisions, and processes in a fully remote setting.

We typically expect candidates with hands-on software engineering experience including 2+ years in engineering management or leadership roles to have the skills mentioned above.

Bonus points if…
  • You have experience working in a SaaS company and a fast-growing startup
  • You have experience leading teams in a remote, asynchronous, multicultural work setting

About TestGorilla

At TestGorilla, we envision a world where everyone has their dream job. To achieve that, employers and employees need to have the right information about each other.

We started in 2020 by building a screening platform that enables employers to evaluate candidates in the skills that matter most for success in a role. Our product replaces subjective, incomplete, and often inflated CVs with objective, reliable, and fair test results measuring aptitude, practical job skills, culture add, and motivation.

Improving and expanding this platform is our core focus at the moment, but it’s only the beginning of our journey to get everyone their dream job. Over time, we will launch more products that support this mission.

In 2022, we secured $70m in Series A funding, co-led by the venture capital firms Atomico and Balderton Capital. The funding brings the company’s total investment to $80m following previous investments from Notion, Partech, and CapitalT. Chances are you’re familiar with some of our biggest customers, like the UK’s National Health Service, 3M, Sony, Oracle, PepsiCo, Bain & Company, and Deloitte.

We work remotely, spread across the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Interested?

We don’t offer rainbow glitter unicorns or dog-friendly offices (we literally don’t have an office), but we do offer real people, solid core values, and a product meant to give everyone a fair, unbiased chance at their dream jobs.

Here at TestGorilla, we do as we say. We use our assessment platform to make sure we make the best hiring decisions faster and bias-free.

So if this role sounds like a good fit for you, I’d like you to take an assessment so we can get a better idea about whether you would fit the role. It’s also a great opportunity for you to get to know our product!

We encourage diverse applicants from a myriad of educational, work, and personal backgrounds to apply. We are a parent-friendly/caregiver-friendly employer who recognizes the importance of having a great life outside of work.

If you’re hired, I’ll do everything I can to help you succeed at TestGorilla and throughout the rest of your career.
