Job description

Overview:

The purpose of this role is to train and prepare trainees for a future career as a Security Officer, Armed Officer and/or Security Officer Lead. This program requires a one (1) year commitment.

 

This position will train with the security Training Program Manager and senior officers. Trainee will assist and support the security team by shadowing during facilities and grounds patrols, assist with welfare and safety of personnel and patients, investigate critical incidents, assists employees, patients and visitors, and collaborate with emergency responses agencies as required. Supports facility safety by securing doors and monitoring parking and traffic control. Use of integrity and honesty while performing security duties are the expectation of the trainee role.

Responsibilities:
  1. Developing excellent interpersonal skills and be customer service oriented in all contacts with patients, visitors and staff. 
  1. Assists in response to all emergency codes for assistance and control. Patrols and inspects facilities, grounds and parking lots frequently to assist in maintaining a safer and more secure environment. Assists employees with security related matters, mediate disputes, conduct interviews, conduct searches, and enforces parking regulations and traffic control. Serves as a security subject matter expert. 
  1. Assists in locking/unlocking facility doors at prescribed times. Checks unoccupied areas and sets the alarms when appropriate. Escorts patients, visitors and employees. Assists medical staff in restraining and handling combative patients. 
  1. Develops knowledge of applicable laws and regulations. Applies critical thinking skills during extremely stressful situations as needed. 
  1. Learns about appropriate and effective use of assigned skills and tools according to policy and training. 
  1. Learns how to write reports of complaints, critical security incidents and unusual activities involving patients, employees, and visitors. Maintains an accurate log of all relevant security activities during each shift. 
  1. Based on area of assignment, may assist in the maintenance and preservation of confidential health documents including scanning into electronic patient health information systems. 
  1. Other duties may include, but are not limited to, answering phone calls and supporting the badging office. Supports security department as determined by department leadership and facility need.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED

Valid Alaska Driver’s License or the ability to obtain a valid Alaska Driver’s License within 90 days of employment. Must be eligible for coverage under the company auto insurance policy. Must present a professional appearance and demeanor at all times and must possess strong verbal communications skills. Must have basic computer skills.

Must successfully complete all required security departmental training, including department specific annual training and mandatory training as assigned.

 

Must be able to demonstrate the ability to perform physical requirements of the position. Capabilities will be demonstrated through the successful completion of similarly related skills testing. Employees hired on or after January 1, 2022 will need to successfully demonstrate the physical requirements before starting in the role. Employees hired before January 1, 2022 must be able to successfully demonstrate the physical requirements by December 31, 2022. If upon initial evaluation, an employee is unable to successfully demonstrate the physical requirements, there will be a quarterly assessment administered. This physical skills assessment will then be conducted on an annual basis and employees must successfully meet the requirements to remain in role.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

JROTC / ROTC, Police Explorer Program, Security or similar experience.

Interest in law enforcement/security career progression.

Criminal justice classes.
