As part of its separation from Carrier, the Commercial and Residential Fire business is building its Accounting & Controllership department. This presents an excellent opportunity for a motivated and strategic thinker to assume a critical role within the organization. This individual will have the opportunity to delve into all manners of Finance/Accounting impacting a multi-national company and creating true value for the company.

This role represents the opportunity to help build and shape the future of our Accounting & Controllership department. This person will work with all members of the department and help solve issues to create true value for the company.

About This Role:

As the Senior Manager, Complex and Technical Accounting, you will lead the Complex Accounting function, focusing on complex/technical accounting issues and ensuring compliance with US GAAP and company policies. You will support the Corporate Assistant Controller and the Controller by providing expert guidance on technical accounting matters and driving the implementation of accounting standards. This role is crucial for maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the company’s financial reporting and ensuring adherence to regulatory requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Technical Accounting: Oversee the resolution of complex accounting issues and ensure compliance with US GAAP and company policies including but not limited to:

  • Revenue Recognition (ASC 606)

  • Business Combinations (ASC 805)

  • Derivatives & Hedging (ASC 815)

  • Stock-Based Compensation (ASC 718)

  • Leases (ASC 842)

  • Compensation – Retirement Benefits (ASC 715)

  • Policy Development and Management: Develop and maintain technical accounting policies and procedures to ensure consistent application across the organization.

  • Implementation: Lead the implementation of new accounting standards and regulations, including providing training and support to relevant teams.

  • Reporting: Prepare and review technical accounting memos, documentation, and disclosures for financial reporting purposes.

  • Collaboration: Work closely and support the Assistant Controller, Controller, external auditors to support the audit process and address any technical accounting issues.

  • Strategic Support: Provide strategic advice on accounting matters related to business transactions, acquisitions, and other significant financial activities.

  • Training: Develop and deliver training programs on technical accounting topics for finance teams.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Business

  • CPA or Chartered Accountant certification

  • 7+ years of extensive experience in technical accounting, including expertise in US GAAP and experience with complex accounting issues

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Public/Corporate accounting mix preferred

  • Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proven ability to influence and collaborate with senior leadership and cross-functional teams

  • Competencies: Demonstrated experience in implementing accounting standards and managing technical accounting issues

  • Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of accounting software (ERP/HFM), accounting standards and financial system tools, with strong Excel skills
