Job description

Charles Taylor Canada has a 25+ year foundation of strong partnerships in the Canadian Commercial Insurance Market. We seek to expand our Canadian Loss Adjusting Practice to service our clients’ needs across: Natural Resources, Marine & Transportation (MAT), Environmental, Property, Construction and Industrial (PCI) & Specialty Risks.

Our Canadian Adjusting Team and seek experienced General Adjusters and National General Adjusters with Commercial P&C experience and market presence to join our team. Position locations are flexible and remote with location hubs including – Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, and Montreal.

These roles are critical to our Canadian expansion strategy to build stronger domestic and international client partnerships, provide forward-looking, innovative, and agile solutions with speed and scale.

Candidate Profile

Multi-Line – General Adjuster (GA) / National General Adjuster (NGA) should be a hands-on, technically competent professional with a history of success within a top-tier Commercial Independent Adjusting Firm, Broker, or Insurance carrier. Ideal candidates hold university degrees, professional designations, and insurance-specific credentials such as a Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP).

The practice works with carriers, brokers, and corporate clients, focusing on moderate to complex and large losses. The ideal candidate will have an established market following and client base. Our Multi-Line – General Adjuster will support a portfolio of claims for a variety of different sub-lines of business, including:

  • Property
  • Construction (COC and WUL)
  • Industrial
  • Commercial General liability
  • Environmental
  • Product Liability
  • Professional liability
  • Transportation and Cargo


GAs / NGAs will handle the full claim life cycle according to our standard methodologies. In addition, you will establish strong market and internal partnerships across our North American and Global Adjusting and practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development, marketing, and growth of Charles Taylor Adjusting Canada.
  • Represent Charles Taylor at internal and external meetings, including review meetings with brokers and critical clients to actively develop new business within the existing portfolio.
  • Work within assigned office budget to maintain productivity and WIP figures.
  • Proactively seeking to identify and implement improvements to streamline the claims processes, procedures, and systems to drive efficiency.
  • Develop, build, and win additional nominations with targeted carriers, brokers, TPA, and insureds in the Canadian Market and in the International Market.
  • Receipt of new claim instructions and initiating claims handling procedures.
  • Evaluate and assess all elements which may impact upon Underwriters' potential exposure.
  • Regularly liaise and report to Underwriters and other insurance practitioners regarding circumstances, damage, costs, and cause of loss, including detailed assessment and reporting of settlement options and recommendations.
  • Liaise and negotiate with prospective repair agents, manufacturers, third-party claimants regarding damages, repair work scopes, and cost estimates. Review and report recommendations regarding costs and estimates with payment recommendations to Underwriters.
  • Provision of general advice and assistance to Underwriters in respect of the interpretation of policy conditions.
  • Manage personal caseload to ensure prompt settlement of files, accuracy, and timeliness, including control of vendor expenses.
  • Work within the framework and the claims proposition, focusing on service delivery across the team for all internal/external client groups and partners.
  • To act as part of a team to ensure goals are met and to work with third-party service providers to ensure claims service standards are maintained.
  • Build and maintain client relationships and look after critical accounts by providing timely and clear responses to correspondence received.
  • To provide general assistance and support to senior claims adjusters, managers, and underwriters, including projects and ad-hoc tasks as they arise.


Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 8+ years experience in managing commercial property & casualty claims.
  • Post-secondary Education - Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • CIP / FCIP Designation.
  • Works autonomously within a defined accountability framework and assumes responsibility for decisions and work performed.
  • Successful history in building solid relationships both internally and externally.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, interpersonal, adaptability, and dependability skills.
  • Producing exceptionally authored technical reports and being able to present in-person to clients.
  • Working cohesively and cross-functionally with other teams/stakeholders to achieve common goals.
  • Solid understanding of the insurance/reinsurance market.
  • Experience with the London-based commercial insurance market.
  • Viability and connections to the local commercial insurance market.
