Job Description

Join us at Fugro in Leidschendam, the Netherlands, and play a crucial role in maintaining the safety and efficiency of our fleet's hydraulic systems. As our hydraulic systems expert, you ensure the reliability and efficiency of hydraulic systems on Fugro’s marine vessels. Engage in key projects, such as converting our current and new Geotechnical vessels to focusing on optimizing hydraulic operations and seamless integrated controls.

You will recommend and implement technical solutions and maintenance requirements for hydraulic systems and controls. Leading hydraulic upgrade and modification projects, you will review and refine hydraulic designs. Using diagnostic tools, you will troubleshoot hydraulic issues and support marine engineers with operations and emergency repairs.  You conduct regular inspections and oversee repairs on hydraulic components, together with your two junior team members.

You will be responsible for acting as a subject matter expert, proposing and setting standards enhancing the reliability and efficiency of the advanced hydraulic equipment deployed on and from our diverse fleet of Geophysical, Geotechnical and Asset Integrity vessels.

Frequent travel involved, 50% of the time.

Your role:

  • You lead key projects, focusing on enhancing hydraulic systems for optimal performance and safety;

  • You recommend and oversee the installation and modification of hydraulic systems and components on site;

  • You provide technical support to marine engineers for hydraulic operations and emergency repairs;

  • You serve as the company's hydraulic systems expert, supporting fleet development and maintenance;

  • You will assist and start developing of maintenance schedules to extend equipment lifespan and prevent breakdowns, together with maintenance and reliability engineering department;

  • You conduct regular inspections and oversee repairs on hydraulic components, together with your two junior team members;

  • You troubleshoot hydraulic system issues using diagnostic tools and software;

  • You advise on putting together training programs for the vessel staff on hydraulic system maintenance and operations, together the crewing department;

  • You supervise contractors and vendors during major repairs or installations.

Your trackrecord:

  • At least 10 years of experience in complex hydraulic systems engineering, with a focus on marine applications;

  • In-depth knowledge of hydraulic engineering principles, including fluid dynamics, hydraulic circuitry, mechanical systems and controls (minimum capability to write a technical specification for a control system/FAT/FDS);

  • Strong analytical skills to diagnose and resolve complex hydraulic issues and you have experience with diagnostic tools and software for troubleshooting hydraulic systems;

  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, and ensure timely completion, in close collaboration with your manager;

  • Effective communication skills for coordinating with ship crews, management, and external contractors;

  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
