About the role and what you'll be doing: 

We are seeking a highly skilled and technical Principal Product Manager to lead our Mainframe Application Development and Management managed services portfolio. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in technologies used in industry applications such as COBOL, zOS, Assembler, PL/1, and databases, and will be responsible for overseeing the product strategy for development, enhancement, and maintenance of client mainframe applications. This role requires a strategic thinker with excellent technical and leadership skills to drive product success and ensure alignment with business objectives. 

Position reports to Sr. Director, Product Management for Mainframe & Power 

Key Areas of Focus for this Role  

  • Develop and execute the product strategy for mainframe application management services, owning the product roadmap, product feature set, and product communication ensuring alignment with business goals and market needs. 
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define product vision, goals, and deliverables. 
  • Lead the product efforts to create application management and development services that will help clients modernize and maintain their application code using COBOL, zOS, Assembler, PL/1, and various databases. 
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including technical functions such as operations and engineering, and business units, to ensure successful product delivery. 
  • Communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders to gather requirements, provide updates, and address any issues or concerns. 
  • Manage product development timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure timely and within-budget delivery of mainframe application projects. 
  • Identify and mitigate risks and resolve any product development related issues. 
  • Implement and oversee quality assurance processes to ensure the reliability, performance, and security of client mainframe applications. 
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to the development team, ensuring best practices and high-quality code standards. 
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies to drive innovation and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications: 

  • 8+ years of relevant experience working for a Managed IT Service, mainframe outsourcer, and/or Hosting Provider. 
  • 8+ years’ experience in product management with a focus on mainframe applications. 
  • Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in mainframe application development and management. 
  • Proficient in common Mainframe technologies including COBOL, zOS, PL/1, Assembler, and databases. 
  • Excellent technical skills in mainframe technologies and modern programming languages. 
  • Expert knowledge of Mainframe platform architecture, including hardware, software, network, storage, and security components. 
  • Strong DevOps skills, with experience in Agile and Scrum methodologies. 
  • Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams. 
  • A bachelor’s degree in business or economics or equivalent experience. 
  • Data analytics and integration experience.  
  • Ability to translate technical, complex requirements into simple, actionable terms, and to commercialize offers for customer consumption. 
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in fast-paced environment with flawless execution, working collaboratively with cross-functional, cross-cultural teams. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Program Management in a business or technical capacity. 
  • Experience with hybrid IT environments. 
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices and tools.
