description:
The
purpose of the role is to work with leading mining companies, industry
organisations and finance institutions in the integration of nature into
business decision-making. You will be playing a crucial part in shaping the
future of nature sustainability for the mining sector. The role will also
involve working across a broader range of sectors including linear
infrastructure, ports and agriculture through the application of lender
safeguards, notably the International Finance Corporation’s Performance Standard
6.
Responsibilities:
Project
delivery
· Project Management: consisting of
technical design of complex projects, ensuring timely delivery of on-budget
projects to the requisite level of quality and technical substance.
Projects
may include:
· Undertaking assessments to understand
site level project risks and impacts and identifying opportunities for
mitigation including offset.
· Environmental and Social Due Diligence
of large, complex projects across mining, infrastructure, and agriculture
sectors
· Undertaking assessments to identify
portfolio level risks, impacts and dependencies on nature and preparation of
strategies to mitigate risks and optimise opportunities.
· Other duties commensurate with the
role.
Strategy
and business development
· Developing strategic and innovative
proposals of work with new or existing clients.
· Expand the business through networking
and relationship building with global business forums, academia, NGOs etc.
Innovation
and communication
· Public speaking on behalf of TBC,
including writing, reviewing and delivering webinars and in-person
presentations to elevate our visibility as a trusted brand for the mining
sector.
· Writing and reviewing material for
scientific and business press, TBC website and publications
· Work with senior staff and our
technical research and development team to develop approaches, metrics and
tools for assessing and mitigating biodiversity impacts of complex, large-scale
projects in areas of sensitive biodiversity.
· Keeping abreast of current
nature-related issues for international business and development projects.
Team
management
· Line management of junior
consultant(s), mentoring and supporting their professional development.
· Provision of technical leadership in
specific sectoral or thematic areas.
Requirements
Essential
attributes:
· At least ten years’ relevant
experience in development projects with a focus on mining.
· Experience of applying lender
requirements, particularly International Finance Corporation’s Performance
Standard 6, to development projects in emerging economies in extractives,
and/or agribusiness sectors
· Solid consultancy experience
· Experience of managing and delivering
multiple complex projects
· Excellent writing and verbal
communication skills
· Sufficient GIS skills to design and
evaluate analyses with our GIS team
· Willingness and enthusiasm to travel
globally and work in challenging environments
· Good track record of business
development and client relationship management
· A good Honours degree in a relevant
discipline.
Desirable
attributes (NOT essential):
· A background as a field conservation
specialist, understanding how to make conservation theory work in practice with
communities and governments.
· Experience of reviewing work and providing
QAQC
· Proven ability to work in French or
Spanish
· Experience of supervising or managing
individuals and/or small teams
· A postgraduate qualification or a PhD
in a relevant discipline.
· Experience working in Africa, Latin
America, or Asia.
