Job Title: Trade Compliance Associate

Job Description

We are seeking a Trade Compliance Associate responsible for ensuring compliance with trade regulations and improving internal processes. The role involves making HS Code and valuation determinations, resolving shipment issues, applying for necessary permits, and conducting trade compliance training. This is a remote temporary role with the potential for extension based on business needs.

Responsibilities

  • Make HS Code and valuation determinations.
  • Resolve shipment import and export issues during customs clearance.
  • Make FDA product code and intended use determinations.
  • Apply for USDA permits when necessary.
  • Work with internal partners to ensure high levels of trade compliance awareness.
  • Conduct trade compliance training on HS Codes, valuation, and other relevant topics.
  • Collaborate on internal SOPs/Work Instructions to identify best practices.
  • Lead and manage relationships with customs broker service providers.
  • Support internal and external sites with trade compliance leadership and technical information.
  • Conduct post-entry audits.
  • Maintain records for all company imports.
  • Support export filings, including SLIs and EEIs.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in the global trade and compliance sector.
  • Knowledge of USDA, FDA, CDC, and EPA requirements.
  • Experience with global trade regulations and compliance.
  • Ability to work independently on projects.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in supply chain, logistics, business, or other relevant discipline preferred.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with logistics, particularly in biology, pharma, and chemistry sectors.
  • Experience with FDA product codes and USDA permit applications.
  • Global experience in regions such as Australia, Europe, New Zealand, India, Sweden, and the Czech Republic.
  • Licensed Customs Broker preferred.
  • Experience with FDA/MHRA/EMA regulations preferred.
  • 3-5 years of experience in logistics, transportation, import/export, or cold-chain supply chain functions.
  • 3-5 years of experience in the biotech-pharmaceutical sector.
  • Strong leadership, collaboration, and influencing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a high-volume environment.
  • Willingness to work across time zones and outside US work hours.
  • Some weekend work hours may be necessary.

Work Environment

This is a remote role that does require to go onsite 2-4 times per quarter for team meetings. Standard working hours are 8-5, with the possibility of taking calls outside normal business hours to accommodate global time zones.
