Job description

Who We Are

At Kyndryl, we design, build, manage and modernize the mission-critical technology systems that the world depends on every day. So why work at Kyndryl? We are always moving forward – always pushing ourselves to go further in our efforts to build a more equitable, inclusive world for our employees, our customers and our communities.

The Role

Kyndryl is looking for a curious and proactive Manager to build and lead one of our Infrastructure teams. Our Infrastructure teams are the foundation our success in part by building and maintaining our own internal IaaS. Our technically skilled engineers exhibit passion and expertise in building and maintaining Skytap’s cloud services.

As the leader of this team, in the hardware systems domain you will be working to procure, deploy, operate, and troubleshoot Skytap storage, x86, and IBM Power servers across the company; support Skytap datacenter and co-location spaces; and participate in the team’s hardware asset management and inventory programs.

Your Future at Kyndryl
Every position at Kyndryl offers a way forward to grow your career. We have opportunities that you won’t find anywhere else, including hands-on experience, learning opportunities, and the chance to certify in all four major platforms. Whether you want to broaden your knowledge base or narrow your scope and specialize in a specific sector, you can find your opportunity here.

Who You Are

Your Responsibilities:

  • Define vision and set direction for a team of Technicians and Engineers, anticipating strategic growth and scaling-related challenges

  • Collaborate with internal service teams to troubleshoot and resolve server and network infrastructure issues

  • Manage relationships with vendors including IaaS, SaaS and co-location providers

  • Work with your team to build out best practices for operationally maintaining applications running on public cloud platforms

  • Participate in the administration and maintenance of Skytap global infrastructure health, including responding to alerts and diagnosing and recovering from service-impacting incidents

  • Create system and process documentation

  • Direct the development of automation using Ansible and Puppet to standardize deployment and maintenance processes and reduce time to diagnose and repair defects

  • Manage development of processes and tools related to procurement, building, and quality assurance of server hardware and storage systems, including configuration of out-of-band interfaces (iLO/iDRAC/BMC), BIOS settings, and firmware levels

Your Skills:

  • Experience leading a service engineering team and translating customer and technical requirements into service architecture to meet quality of service expectations

  • 5+ years technical experience and strong knowledge of Unix/Linux operating systems

  • 5+ years experience performing hardware procurement, deployment, management, and troubleshooting, preferably with HPE, Dell, and Supermicro; experience with IBM Power systems is a plus

  • Experience working with Virtualization/Cloud technologies, such as VMWare (preferred), OpenStack, AWS, Azure

  • Experience with configuration management and orchestration using Ansible and/or Puppet

  • Proficiency in monitoring, logging, and system management tools such as Zabbix, Splunk, and Device42

  • Understanding of security concepts and technologies, including authentication, authorization, and accounting  (AAA), encryption, and server hardening

  • Working knowledge of Jira and Confluence or other ticketing and documentation tools

Being You
