JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
We are searching for an Electrical Engineering Designer to join the Mechanical and Electrical Design and Drafting Department within the Engineering Services Division of the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State. ARL’s purpose is to develop innovative solutions to challenging national problems in support of the Navy, DoD, and Intel communities engineering and technology needs. This position will facilitate design and manufacturing leadership of complex Printed Circuit Boards (PCBs) in support of ARL’s research offices.

You will:
Support cutting-edge research utilizing PCB software in the creation of complex schematics, PCBs, assemblies, library parts, bills of materials, and other required documentation
Collaborate with technical staff on conceptual design of complex electrical systems
Drive material selection, packaging, tolerance analysis, manufacturing support, and cost projections efforts
Provide work status updates and lead or present in design review meetings with senior staff
Advance the team through mentoring and technical leadership of junior staff within the department. May include performance appraisals and direct supervision of staff
Estimate incoming work requests, assign work, and facilitate tracking to completion
Provide advanced knowledge and guidance of others regarding electrical topics including power electronics, RF, and/or high speed digital
Effectively integrate with senior technical staff to evolve design methods and techniques, including templates, as required for new and evolving research programs
Develop or evaluate & introduce new software tools and work processes to improve department capabilities in design, reporting, and efficiency of operation
Build relationships with suppliers and customers in support of efforts to improve the department’s Design for Manufacturability (DfM) / Design for Assembly (DfA) efforts
Typical requirements include an Associates' degree or higher in Drafting or related discipline; 10+ years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required experience areas include:
Strong working knowledge of electronic circuits and components in analog and digital design
Strong PCB software knowledge and working proficiency in component creation, schematic layout, and PCB design; Altium preferred, not required
Advanced Electronics industry knowledge from PCB design through manufacturing
Working knowledge of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) and Configuration Management (CM); Teamcenter preferred, not required
Microsoft Office and Adobe products
Certification or familiarization with IPC standards preferred, not required
This position is required to be 100% on-site, but options exist for a hybrid work from office and work from home scenario dependent upon research requirements.

$61,800.00 - $89,600.00
