Union Settlement is an East Harlem based nonprofit organization founded in 1895. For 128 years, Union Settlement has provided critical and innovative programming to children, youth, families, and older adults. As a pioneer of the settlement house movement, Union Settlement continues to meet the needs of the ever-changing East Harlem community through its core programs. Today, Union Settlement provides services through 33 program sites in approximately 28 locations. Union Settlement’s current programmatic portfolio includes 8 core program areas: Early Childhood Education, Youth Services (including after school programs), Family Services (including the Family Enrichment Center and the Family Childcare Network), the East Harlem Community Partnership, Adult Education, Mental Health Services, Older Adult Centers, and Economic Development. Union Settlement serves more than 10,000 individuals and nearly 1,000 businesses every year.

Position Summary:

 

The Director of Individual Giving and Development Operations is a dynamic and results-oriented leader who will play a crucial role in driving the organization's financial sustainability and operational excellence. This position requires a unique blend of fundraising expertise, strategic thinking, process management skills, and exceptional relationship management abilities. The ideal candidate will be a highly effective communicator with a proven track record in project management, cultivation of relationships and managing development operations. In this role, the director will develop, implement and oversee a comprehensive fundraising plan with the goal of expanding philanthropic support for the organization. This includes identifying and strengthening relationships with community stakeholders, actively pursuing and managing corporate and individual donors, fostering strong donor and sponsor relationships, and seeking, applying for and managing grant funding. is responsible for leading, designing, and implementing a donor-centric strategy to increase annual and multi-year revenue from corporate, foundation and government principally through grants & endowments. Additionally, this position involves planning and executing Union Settlement’s cultivation and fundraising events.   • Prior experience in creating and executing an annual giving campaign, major gifts strategies, planned giving (bequests, annuities) and a spectrum of fundraising event planning and execution at a non-profit institution.

Development Operations

  • Strategy: Develop and implement comprehensive Development operation plans that align with the organization's strategic goals, ensuring efficient and effective resource allocation.
  • Process Optimization: Continuously analyze and improve relationship management processes, leveraging technology and best practices to enhance workflow efficiency and productivity.
  • Project Management: Lead and oversee the successful planning, execution, and completion of various projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
  • Financial Management: Manage budget related to Fund Development processes ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulations, and sound financial decision-making.
  • Data Analysis & Reporting: Utilize data-driven insights to inform strategic decisions, track key performance indicators, and evaluate the effectiveness of Fund Development initiatives.
  • Leadership: Partners with Executive team to build and grow and manage a pipeline, fostering a collaborative, positive, and results-oriented culture.

 

Fundraising

  • Individual Giving Strategy: Develop and execute a comprehensive individual giving strategy focused on building and cultivating long-term relationships with donors.
  • Donor Relationship Management: Serve as the primary relationship manager for a portfolio of major donors, cultivating strong relationships through personalized communication and tailored engagement strategies.
  • Donor Stewardship: Ensure exceptional donor stewardship through consistent communication, timely acknowledgements, and meaningful impact reporting.
  • Fundraising Events: contribute to the planning and execution of fundraising events that engage donors, raise awareness, and generate revenue.

Qualifications And Experience

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, or related field. Master's degree preferred
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in nonprofit management, with a proven track record in fundraising, operational leadership, and project management.
