Job description

Project description

The Caribbean Christian Centre for the Deaf (CCCD) in Jamaica has requested the support of a Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) to serve as a Social Studies Deaf Education Support Specialist. CCCD provides the Deaf with an accessible education and authentic community through the operation of three residential schools and one Deaf village. The Knockpatrick campus school can serve more than 200 students at its peak, however there is a need for support to implement the curriculum in the areas of history, geography, politics, economics, and culture.

The PCRV will collaborate with Campus Managers to co-develop appropriate strategies to improve the skills and knowledge of students in history, geography, politics, economics, and culture. They will also co-develop assessment methods to assess and track the progress of students and evaluate sessions. As appropriate, the PCRV may also assist in the preparation and development of teaching materials and teaching programs. The overall goal of the assignment is to strengthen CCCD's efforts to support students to learn sign language, gain an education, obtain vocational skills, and ultimately go out into the world.

Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in Jamaica together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.
