Come join us in ensuring everyone, everywhere has access to the skills they need to unlock their potential and create possibilities for themselves and others.

Hybrid work

Udemy is headquartered in San Francisco with global offices in Australia, India, Ireland, Türkiye, and other US locations. Our robust hybrid work model spans San Francisco, Denver, Ankara, Dublin, Mexico City and Melbourne.

This hybrid position requires two days per week in the office at the nearest hub.

About This Job

Udemy is seeking a Manager within the Data Products organization to lead AI and Machine Learning efforts related to Content Recommendations and Pricing. The Data Products organization is a centralized group of data scientists, machine learning engineers, and software engineers responsible for developing and maintaining ML/AI-powered products.

In this role, you will be responsible for managing a high-performing team of data scientists, machine learning, and software engineers to deliver an exceptional experience on Udemy which focuses primarily on the needs of organizations, including both managers and learners. As a manager, you will work closely with leadership, product managers, marketers, data scientists, and engineers. Success in this role requires a combination of strong leadership and people management skills, a deep understanding of AI/ML techniques and systems, and experience in developing and scaling data products.

About You

We are looking for an energetic, optimistic, and independent leader who is passionate about driving increased access to high quality education in the world. The ideal candidate is a team-oriented, technical leader who has broad knowledge of AI/ML development best practices, strong product intuition, the ability to balance long-term architectural considerations with a pragmatic focus on near-term delivery, and experience navigating ambiguity in large organizations to drive fast progress on complex cross-functional technical initiatives. We are interested in building a diverse, collaborative, and fun environment. Come help us improve lives through learning!

What You'll Be Doing

  • Recruit, hire, and retain an amazing team of high-caliber data scientists and engineers.
  • Partner with cross-functional leaders to shape the data products roadmap and drive execution.
  • Provide hands-on technical guidance and career mentorship for team members.
  • Maintain high-quality standards, effective team processes, and best practices in both data science and engineering.

What You'll Have

  • 6+ years of experience in data science and engineering roles
  • 3+ years of experience building complex AI/ML products at scale in cross-functional teams
  • 3+ years of management experience
  • Strong knowledge of the ML lifecycle, engineering best practices, and A/B testing
  • Hands-on experience with a variety of fundamental AI/ML methods
  • Ability to communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Self-driven, highly motivated, and able to learn quickly

We understand that not everyone will match each of the above qualifications. However, we also realize that everyone has unique experiences that can add value to our company. Even if you think your background might not perfectly align, we'd love to hear from you!

Life at Udemy

We aspire to be as vibrant and dynamic as the communities we serve, as inquisitive as those who use our platform, and as revolutionary as the future we strive to open for everyone. Here are some of the things we love about life at Udemy:

  •  We’re invested in creating an inclusive environment that welcomes a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences. From creating employee resource groups, ensuring we’re a Fair Pay Workplace, and building a flexible work culture, our belonging, equity, diversity, and inclusion (BEDI) initiatives always put our people first. We want you to be able to bring your authentic self to work because when we all do, we’re better for it.

  • Learning is what we do – inside and out. Our Learning & Development team is second to none, helping ensure your journey is one of continuous progression. You’ll also have unlimited access to Udemy courses, monthly UDays (meeting-free professional development days), and a generous annual professional development stipend.

  • Our reason to exist is to revolutionize learning – that calls for taking risks and learning from failures. Whether it’s our hackathons (a company-wide effort to envision new possibilities for our product) or sharing our prototypes, we see experimentation as a crucial step on the path to success.

  • We’re committed to creating world-class employee experiences and are proud of the recognition of this by Great Place to Work and Built In Best Places to Work.

Of course, the best thing about being part of Udemy is knowing your work makes a difference for people and organizations around the world. You’ve got the skills; why not use them to help others develop theirs?
