Job Description

The Engineering Manager leads the Alpha Engineering team to success and alignment with Alpha's goals and values. This position requires strong leadership attributes with the ability to manage cross-functional teams and motivate staff toward action and achieving goals.

 

The Engineering Manager is accountable for the Engineering team’s operations, supporting Alpha's goals and customer expectations. They are responsible for developing and administering budgets, schedules, staffing, and performance standards for the group. They participate with other key Alpha leaders and provide input critical to promoting advanced development efforts.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate or lead proposal and project design reviews, ensuring quality and accuracy.
  • Establish clear expectations for best practices when planning, designing, engineering, and implementing projects.
  • Set performance expectations and provide regular feedback via informal and scheduled reviews.
  • Lead cross-functional teams to develop new approaches to challenges.
  • Motivate, engage, and develop Engineering talent and supervision through coaching, internal promotions, and outside hiring.
  • Provide coaching, conflict resolution, and corrective action as necessary to resolve concerns related to performance.
  • Prioritize workload assignments while ensuring accountability and a positive work culture.
  • Establish goals for short & long-term internal projects. Enlist team members to drive goals to successful completion.
  • Ensure open, direct, and effective communication is developed and maintained among key internal clients and operating departments.
  • Identify and capture new business opportunities. Allocate resources to support the preparation of new business proposals.
  • Represent Alpha Video by participating in key customer presentations.
  • Allocate resources, provide technical guidance, and ensure budget accountability to support contracted and internal research and development activities.
  • Oversee all Engineering Team budgeting activities, resource allocation, and expense forecasting.
  • Oversee the development of Engineering Team job descriptions; maintain and align them for all roles in the department.
  • Assemble Team staffing forecasts and participate in all Engineering Team hiring activities.
  • Provide briefings to senior management, including regular status reports and periodic reviews of major issues and programs.
  • Master our internal ERP system (Q360) as required to track projects, BOMs, and resource allocations.
  • Participate in continuous improvement of internal company procedures and processes.
  • Demonstrate the highest level of ethical conduct throughout all aspects of job performance.
  • Facilitate meetings necessary to effectively inform management, the project team, and impacted parties of project status.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication and team-building skills.
  • Effectively manage multiple projects/tasks in a team environment.
  • Lead through diplomacy and conflict resolution.
  • Maintain personal credibility and integrity, exhibiting Alpha’s values.
  • Other duties/projects as assigned.
Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in a supervisory/leadership position managing a team of engineers.
  • Experience working for a systems integrator, consultant, end user, or manufacturer.
  • Knowledge of broadcast, audiovisual, and digital signage technologies, system design, operation, and integration.
  • Basic understanding of various audio and video formats and standards.
  • Demonstrated experience with technical project planning, system integration, verification and validation, and risk management.
  • Possess and exhibit excellent written and oral communication and strong interpersonal, organizational, and leadership skills.

Job Requirements:

  • Up to 20% travel
  • Occasional night and weekend work

Direct Reports

This position can have up to 25 direct reports.

Education/Knowledge:

  • Bachelor's degree in applied engineering, business management, or business communications.
  • 5+ years of Team Leadership experience, managing client-facing technical employees.
  • Knowledge of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) as applied to media systems integration projects.

Certifications:

Achieve and maintain industry certifications, such as SBE, CompTIA, BICSI, etc. AVIXA CTS desired (past or current).
