Key Duties & Responsibilies

SADD works to empower, engage, mobilize, and change students and adult allies on the issues of mobility safety, substance use, mental health, and leadership development. SADD has a network of dedicated professionals who serve in various positions nationwide, with SADD chapters spanning all 50 states and internationally. We’re trying to change the world through a peer-to-peer model of school and community-based chapters. 

Description:  The Communications & Marketing Manager works to develop and execute communication and marketing strategies for targeted audiences, both internal and external, through the creative development and delivery of content across print, digital, and electronic venues to support the organization’s goals and objectives. This team member represents SADD in all public-facing matters and is one of our national representative leaders with key relationships across the organization, especially within the Field Engagement team. This position is full-time. The role is remote; you will not report to a physical office. However, you may be required to be on-site at events and schools.

Reports to: Executive Director

Salary: $59,000 - $69,000 depending on experience.

 

Key duties and responsibilities include:

  • Propose and implement communication and marketing strategies to achieve organizational goals and objectives. This includes collaboration with the organization’s Leadership Team and the Field Engagement team on programmatic and fundraising initiatives.
  • Assist in the design and development of toolkits and the refreshing of educational materials. 
  • Produce targeted social media content that reflects SADD chapters within that state/ territory and nationally to ensure grant goals are met and all states are represented across all platforms.
  • Develop and implement a newsletter strategy for internal and external audiences.
  • Work with SADD’s Student Leadership Council and Emerging Leaders Council to hone the content they’ve produced to ensure it meets standards and/or elevate their voice on issues important to them. 
  • Manage all social media platforms to increase engagement and reach, and is accurately tagged and optimized.
  • Draft press releases or conference materials and/or engage with the media as needed, including pitching stories about the organization and its work to local, regional, and national outlets as appropriate. 
  • Maintain and develop accurate media contact lists for all relevant markets for new opportunities, upcoming events, and ways to highlight SADD fieldwork.
  • Head initiatives to ensure the SADD brand is protected and consistent. 
  • Track, measure, and report the effectiveness of communication programs, marketing campaigns, and events, and keep and maintain accurate time records of activities. This will require the Manager to be adaptable to hourly restrictions within grants. 
  • Use existing resources and skills to achieve or exceed desired outcomes of current and future organizational goals and needs.
  • Provide oversight and collaboration with third-party vendors, such as the organization’s web hosting service and platform company.
  • Ensure the SADD website functions well, remediate broken links, and ensure content is consistently updated. Provide basic technical assistance remotely to SADD chapters related to the SADD membership platform, website, or resources. 
  • Champion the organization’s internal and external communication and marketing culture. 
  • Other duties as needed & assigned.

  • Initiative: This position is required to keep very clear and accurate records of work completed for each grant assigned, as well as track grant goals related to communications efforts, requiring thinking outside the box, being creative, and developing new and updated graphics, copy, and content to align with ongoing and new projects. 
  • Flexibility: This role will support those working on projects throughout the United States (and abroad), as well as students and external partners. This will require attention to detail and a malleable approach to a schedule.
  • Trend Monitoring: This role will ensure SADD remains relevant and engaging in current trends. It will be critical for this person to design and develop content that maximizes engagement with the youth audience across all platforms while also ensuring continued engagement with partners, adults, and communities at large.
  • Evaluation: Our work relies on accurate data collection & management. This position will oversee achieving set goals, monitoring and recording metrics and data, completing necessary reports, and ensuring that SADD staff, chapters, and partners remain engaged.

A successful Communications & Marketing Manager will possess:

  • Experience with web design or hosting platforms, preferably Wix, and proficiency with managing a CRM system.
  • Experience with graphic and asset design, including platforms like Adobe Pro and/or Canva. 
  • Experience managing various social media accounts and platforms; proven results in increasing engagement and collecting all necessary data across platforms. 
  • Experience in public affairs spaces, engaging with the media, crafting press releases, advisories, or conducting conferences.
  • Demonstrated administrative and office coordination abilities, including proficiency with Microsoft Office and the Google Suite
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills
  • Extremely well-organized, systems-oriented approach with drive, initiative, and an independent work ethic
  • Dedication to a responsible and healthy lifestyle that is in line with the values of SADD.
  • A four-year degree in Communications, Public Affairs, Marketing, or another relevant field. 
  • Experience in Prevention, Law Enforcement, Mobility Safety, Community Health, or Mental Health programming is a plus but not required.
