What You'll Be Doing
The
Wake County Information Technology Department is seeking an experienced
Network Services Engineer to provide advanced technical support and leadership for the county's enterprise network infrastructure and its connected partner agencies. In this role, you will lead the design, implementation, integration and monitoring of network hardware, software and circuits that support
Wake County’s critical business systems. Additionally, you will be responsible for developing network designs that enhance disaster recovery and redundancy efforts, ensuring the secure and continuous operation of essential network services and business processes
24/7, including holidays.
The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in the following areas:
Networking Hardware
- Cisco routers, switches, firewalls, wireless LAN controllers and access points
- Cabling and connectors, including Cat 6 and fiber optics used for interconnecting network devices
Network Security
- Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE)
- VPNs (Cisco ASA)
- Firewalls (Cisco ASA and Firepower)
- Web filtering
- Intrusion Protection
Wireless Infrastructure
- IEEE 802.11 standards
- Cellular networks, including LTE, 4G, and 5G.
Network Management
- DNA Center (Catalyst Center)
- Packet capture platforms
- SolarWinds
- Performance Management, including QoS and traffic shaping
Protocols And Services
Essential Functions
- Monitor the performance of network hardware, software and data circuits, ensuring all network components are running on current IOS/COS release levels
- Act as a project leader or team member for assigned tasks and projects
- Develop strategies, technical direction and engineering solutions for enterprise-wide network services to meet key business needs
- Assist other IT staff with network-related issues and provide second-level support to the helpdesk for areas managed or supported by the Network Team
NOTE: Additional Requirement: This position requires 24-hour on-call availability

Required
The Basics (Required Education and Experience)
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering or related field
- Four years of experience in network design and administration
- Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)
- Over 8 years of experience in network design and administration
- Valid Driver's License and "safe" driving record
Proficient In Configuring And Maintaining
- Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE)
- Cisco ASA and/or Firepower Firewalls
- Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers (WLC) and Access Points (APs)
Cisco Certifications (preferred but not required):
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP)

- Detail oriented with solid analytical and problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of software defined networking and network function virtualization
- Solid Analytical Skills: excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to communicates clearly and concisely
- Ability to effectively evaluate information and data to make decisions, anticipate obstacles and develop plans to resolve them
- Solid understanding and knowledge of protocols such as TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SMTP, FTP and SSL
- Excellent verbal and written skills

Hiring Range: 90,000 - 106,406
Market Range: 76,003.00 - 136,808.00
