Job Title: Principal Engineer, Fiber Planning & Design - Remote | WFH

Job Overview

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage our fiber portfolio, acting as the key subject-matter expert for national network programs.
  • Lead commercial and technical strategies for fiber planning and acquisition, ensuring the integrity of all fiber-related records.
  • Provide thorough reports and analyses for project planning, financial assessments, and commercial discussions.
  • Establish and maintain robust relationships with fiber vendors, remaining informed about their operational status, pricing structures, asset availability, and upcoming projects.
  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration with planning and construction teams across various divisions for project alignment.
  • Oversee the maintenance and enhancement of the fiber inventory database, ensuring accuracy of vendor records and all related data.
  • Drive the development and execution of a strategy aimed at centralizing and automating fiber information, partnering closely with the tools team.
  • Evaluate sales requests that may necessitate design alterations or new acquisitions based on diversity or latency requirements.
  • Act as the fiber expert in cross-functional teams, ensuring smooth project planning and execution.
  • Advocate for knowledge sharing regarding the business and technical aspects of fiber optics throughout the organization.

Required Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of fiber networks, types of fiber, and their interactions with transport and optical networks.
  • Familiarity with fiber vendors and their available assets.
  • Proven experience in acquiring fiber assets, understanding purchasing models such as IRUs and leases.
  • Strong analytical skills and proficiency in reporting.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience is required.
  • A Bachelor's degree is preferred; however, a combination of relevant coursework, experience, or extensive professional expertise will also be considered.
