Evergreen Writer
Do you binge-watch Bridgerton as soon as a new season drops? Are you the go-to friend for all the latest celebrity news: from new couple alerts to surprising breakups? PEOPLE is looking for an entertainment/celebrity writer to join our digital Evergreen team. This position will involve pitching and writing timely search-driven content for PEOPLE across our various verticals, from entertainment, royals and lifestyle content to crime, human interest and political stories. This person must be a fast and clean writer as well as a digitally-savvy celebrity and entertainment expert, with knowledge of SEO best practices.

 

PEOPLE is a fast-paced newsroom, so speed is essential along with an ability to pitch and write multiple articles per day of varying length. We’re looking for a talented writer who regularly consumes new and popular streaming content and has a knowledge of pop culture.

 

Assignment Details: 

 

30-40 hours a week
Start date: 10/7/24 or as soon as possible
End date: 3 months with potential to extend
Hourly Rate: $25-27 
Location: Remote - US

 

Assignment Responsibilities:

 

  • Write new content daily, closely adhering to PEOPLE’s style guide and ensuring all copy is clean and accurate as well as optimized for SEO
  • Use relevant SEO and trending tools to brainstorm content ideas and pitch search-friendly stories based on news cycle and traffic potential
  • Build articles in the CMS
  • Photo research

 

Skills/Experience:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism/communications, English or related field, or equivalent training and/or experience
  • Minimum 2-3 years experience writing for a celebrity news publication or in a related entertainment space 
  • Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong writing and editing skills, impeccable journalistic standards, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to respond quickly to breaking news and understand how to find an SEO or evergreen angle from a news event.
  • Demonstrated understanding of SEO and analytics.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of celebrity and pop culture.
  •  Loves a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.
