Your missions

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) aims to streamline and improve care for all Veterans through the development of a unified online platform. This platform allows Veterans, caregivers, and VA providers, to easily access, monitor, and enhance their health and overall wellness. Working closely with our VA client, the Training Specialist plays a crucial role in designing and implementing comprehensive training materials and learning sessions to promote accessibility and awareness of all features and benefits. 

Product Training Plan
The Training Specialist shall develop a digital product training plan that shall encompass all the tools, techniques, and strategies that will be used to create new and update existing training materials to reflect each new feature, capability, and release as well as deliver several monthly training sessions to end users, including Veterans, Caregivers, VA providers, and other stakeholders. The plan shall be updated monthly and include a schedule of all training sessions and copies of the training materials.

Training Materials
The Training Specialist creates new and updates existing training materials for each of the 15-20 digital product lines. The method of training and type of materials used may include any combination of the following:
  1. User Guides
  2. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
  3. Quick-Start, Implementation, or Orientation Guides
  4. Listservs
  5. Live Demos
  6. Videos, vignettes, webinars, slide show presentations
Prior to the release of a new product feature, the Training Specialist will create or update the set of training materials for that product line to highlight content updates, new content, or new technology workflow/process changes as well as incorporating changes based on user, stakeholder, and/or staff feedback. Training products shall comply with branding and style; privacy guidelines and Section 508 requirements.

The Training Specialist will utilize VA-owned content management system (CMS) templates to post and launch updated training materials to the appropriate training portal on the specific VA platform. All training materials, including source files, shall be provided to the VA PM/COR for review and approval, prior to posting the training material updates.

Delivery of Training to Veterans and VA Staff
The Training Specialist shall deliver digital product trainings to Veterans, their caregivers, and VA staff, e.g. providers, other clinical and administrative staff, and help desk staff who respond directly to Veteran and VA staff issues on the use of each product. Trainings will be hosted in a virtual setting and participants may range from 25 individuals to more than 150 per training session. Approximately 4 trainings occur each month.

Weekly progress reports will document all training product activities.

Required Skills:

  • Content Development: Proficiency in developing training content such as presentations, manuals, e-learning modules, and multimedia materials.
  • Subject Matter Expertise: Understanding of the subject matter being taught, Veteran healthcare and technology
  • Communication Skills: Clear and effective communication is crucial for explaining concepts, facilitating discussions, and presenting information.
  • Facilitation and Presentation: Capability to conduct training sessions, workshops, and seminars in-person or virtually, and engage participants effectively.
  • Evaluation and Assessment: Ability to assess training needs, evaluate training outcomes, and continuously improve training programs based on feedback and results.
  • Adaptability and Flexibility: Willingness to adapt to changes in technology, training methods, or organizational needs.
  • Stakeholder Management: Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders including learners, subject matter experts, managers, and executives.
  • Problem-solving Skills: Capability to identify issues during training delivery and find effective solutions promptly.
  • Technology Proficiency: Comfort with using various digital tools and software for content creation, delivery, and management.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Human Resources, Psychology, Communication, Business Administration, or a related field.
