Clark Associates, Inc is the fastest growing distributor of foodservice, hospitality, and janitorial supplies in the country.?Products are sold through three channels of distribution, including WebstaurantStore.com, The Restaurant Stores, and Clark Food Service Equipment.

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented individual to join our organization as our Import Compliance Specialist (Remote). In this position, you will play a crucial role in ensuring our compliance with regulations and maintaining the highest standards of ethical business practices. As our import volume grows rapidly, we require a candidate who has a deep understanding of import compliance regulations and can navigate complex global supply chains.

As an Import Compliance Specialist, you will:

  • Classify merchandise according to the General Rules of Interpretation (GRI) and proper application of chapter and explanatory notes (EN) and CROSS Rulings.
  • Ensure that Clark's product classification database is accurate for HTS codes and other critical Customs attributes, as well as Partner Government Agency (PGA) e.g., FDA, EPA, APHIS, etc., Antidumping and Countervailing Duties (AD/CVD), Sections 201,301,232, and quotas.
  • Provide guidance and support to internal teams regarding import compliance matters, including Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) Classification, INCOTERMS, Valuation, and country of origin/marking.
  • Conduct Denied/Restricted Party Screening of new vendors and or all other parties associated with Clark’s imports.
  • Perform post entry summary audits to ensure data and document accuracy and execute entry corrections e.g., Post-Summary Correction (PSC), Protests, and Prior Disclosure filings as needed.
  • Create and maintain reports and analytics for senior management using ACE and other pertinent data.
  • Work collaboratively with Clark's designated Customs brokers, procurement, distribution, IT, sales operations, marketing, and finance to ensure import compliance strategies are aligned.
  • Develop and conduct internal stakeholders’ training on Import Compliance regulations.
  • Stay current on US trade policy and communicate new developments effectively with internal stakeholders.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned, in support of import, product and legal teams.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled candidate who possesses the following:

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in import or trade compliance
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Ability to learn and strictly adhere to the rules of US Customs
  • Proficiency in data aggregation, cleaning, and analysis
  • Curiosity about processes and the ability to ask relevant questions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey compliance concepts to other departments
  • Comfortable with change and willing to stay informed about changes in trade policy
  • Demonstrates integrity and represents the company well with external providers
  • Knowledge of FTZ and CTPAT is preferred but not required
  • Preferably a Licensed Customs Broker or Certified Customs Specialist
  • Willingness to travel up to 5% per year

Remote Work Qualifications

  • Access to a reliable and secure high-speed internet connection. Cable or fiber internet connections (at least 75mbps download/10mbps upload) are preferred, as satellite connections often cannot support the technologies used to perform day-to-day tasks.
  • Access to a home router and modem.
  • A dedicated home office space that is noise- and distraction-free. The space should have strong wireless connection or a wired Ethernet connection (wired connection is preferred, if possible).
  • A valid, physical address (apartment, suite, etc.). PO Boxes are not supported, as a physical address is required for you to receive your computer equipment.
  • The desire and ability to work and communicate with other team members via chat, webcam, etc.
