Your Opportunity

Does preventive and corrective maintenance to keep the grain elevators running. Will also install new equipment and alter existing equipment and installations as directed.

Core Res​possibilities
  • Work safely according to Smithfield procedures and guidance.

  • Daily preventive and light corrective maintenance, with knowledge of procedures and frequencies on all grain elevator equipment. This includes proper lubrication selection and amounts.

  • Troubleshoot and diagnose milling equipment problems and assist in the planning, performance and assignment of proper repair.

  • Upkeep of pneumatic systems including compressors, cylinders and solenoid valve troubleshooting and maintenance.

  • Machine work and welding on a regular basis.

  • Work with internal combustion engines.

  • Reads schematic drawings to determine work procedures.

  • Diagnose and repair scales and load cells

  • Responsible for being in compliance with all environmental laws and procedures to which Smithfield Hog Production subscribes.

  • Incumbent will be responsible for understanding and complying with company SIPS, EMS and BMS policies and procedures while performing their job duties.

  • Report all environmental issues immediately to their supervisor.

  • Read and understand the company’s emergency notification process and will be responsible for reviewing that policy at their work site.

  • Maintains and ensures the safety of all employees and assets of the company.

  • Willingness to work on holidays, nights, and weekends as required to keep the grain elevators in operation.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by manager.

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university and 5+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership is required

  • Verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team.

  • Available to work extended weekday and weekend hours during grain harvest seasons.

  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.

  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.

  • Driving Privileges and some over night travel.

  • Must be able to walk an average of 2 – 4 miles per day, occasionally up to 5 or 6.

  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs on a limited basis.

  • Must be able to occasionally work in situations two feet above the floor in a leaned-over or squatted position.

  • Must be able to frequently climb over, under, and around feed mill areas.

  • Must be able to walk and stand on concrete and unpaved areas for longer periods of time

  • Must be able to tolerate grain dust, chemical odors, and frequently noisy conditions.

  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment.

  • Must be able to tolerate extreme ranges of seasonal temperatures (hot to cold).
